I have spent the last few weeks on the phone trying to find out if it is illegal to exceed the GVWR of the tow vehicle in Saskatchewan and I finally talked to a traffic engineer who told me it is not illegal. I read on a forum that the only province where it was illegal was BC and they had repealed the law Jan 1st 2007. Can anyone in Canada help me with the law in their province? It seems to be OK in the USA. I am retiring soon and I want to be able to hit the road and go in any direction and be legal. Please don't start the discussion about whether I should travel over the GVWR just am I legal.

Ask a lawyer. Legal or not, he/she will tell you not to do it due to liability issues, and your exposure to them.

Down here you are legat up to the combined GVW's. My dually has a GVW of 11,400 and my trailer 24,500. That puts me legal to 35,900. Just requires a CDL over 26,000.

Some posts are so outrageous and ridiculous, no response is necessary.

In Ontario they look at the nuber of axles and tire sizes, they rate a 265 E range LT at 2000 KG = 4408 lbs! My 3500 Dually's I can license as much as I want as the MTO looks at it like a S/A class 8 tractor. Honestly I believe the laws should be enforced to the GWVR and CGVWR of the MFG'er.

i disagree with that because the ratings are always changing because a 1984 1 ton truck will tow less then a new 1/2 ton that just forces poeple to buy new rigs to go out and do anything.

We dont need anymore laws OR DOT out on the road, I drive commercial truck there are thousands of rules and regulations out there for traffic and towing, We dont need DOT pulling more people over checking the cargo weight of pickups and suv's, All that does is use up more tax dollars.

here is a video about trucking for you guys to think about

I wanna see a duramax tow a trailer like that for a longways, i dont believe it because i see semi's with 10 speeds have problems on hills with that weight
