So... look down below at my signature... go on... take a look. You see that 76 pinto? Now. Imagine that with a 6.2 or 6.5 in it. Wouldn't that be crazy? I'm sure it would fit, people stuff big blocks in them all the time. 6.2 doesn't have much power in a truck but in a 2000 pound car it would be plenty. And the fuel mileage a would be awesome. What is the overall width of a 6.2 or 6.5 and which one is more narrow? The 6.2 has a different injector angle if i remember right so it may be narrower (or wider) than a 6.5. Looks to me like that is the part that sticks out the farthest (injectors and lines). Oh this could be fun, but would be in the future sometime...and if i really go for the gold, perhaps i could use the turbo setup off of a van/hummer so the turbo is on top of the engine and not beside it. The swap would be alot of work but it would be interesting to say the least.

Do it! A guy I went to high school high with had a worn out smog era 460 in a Pinto wago, so I know it will fit. Even though those old 460's were slugs in anything else, that car would burn the tires until you let off, and ran real respectable just due to the power to weight ratio.

I think it would be cool! It would give that pinto some class!!

Should get you pretty darn good MPG, as well! What if you could design cylinder deactivation into it..............I have absolutely no idea if that's even possible, but it sure would be cool!

if you have the time and money to do it....it would be a head turner at any parkinglot/show fo sho. half the reason i do things is just to see the reaction of people when they do a double take.

You were right. You just had a CRAZY idea....

If you got the time and space to do it..........do it!

Great Idea. If Ford would have did that, maybe they would not have had so many lawsuits against them for the gas tanks exploding in the rear. :)

What if you could design cylinder deactivation into it..............

Cool idea - The computer can kill the fuel to any cylinder, so that aspect would be possible, but compressing the air without fuel would really rob power. I suspect that you would need a way to open the exhaust valve on the compression stroke (?)
I've always thought that an electrically operated valve train would really be wonderful and save a lot of fuel too. Then you could drop cyls at will, change the *cam* profile for different situations, etc.

sounds cool!!! Got the time and money than by all means go for it! Share along the way how it goes should you start!!!

Have you started yet, well get to it! :D I would have to drive up there and see that.

I'll look into it. It would be in the future a lil ways but it sounds very fun. The main problem would be the location of front crossmember. In a pinto the oil pans are front sump because of how the crossmember is under the car. A custom oil pan and pickup may be needed. I would have to install heavier springs up front also. I dont know the weight of a 6.2 but its bound to be a heavy engine. Some springs from a V6 model are what most people building V8 pintos use. An automatic transmission would probably be required too because there may not be any room for a clutch cable anymore. Might not be much of a driveshaft anymore! :D:D

Just read where Mercedes is introducing an electric valve train!
What a load off the engine. We still have the IP that *robs* hp, but getting rid of all of those stiff springs would really make a big difference.
Considering the source, I'll wager that the parts will be pretty pricey.
From what I've read, GM also has a system under developement.

I read a review on 'the other site' that had a guy stuffing a 6.5 Turbo into a Corvette. That was a fun read.

Why just a 6.5? :evillol:

i had a 73 vega wagon with a 350 in it. i could get 3rd gear chirps. the builder used highway gearing. i also had a 69 datsun pickup with a 283 and powerglide tranny. they were fun vehicles but they didn't like cornering very much. the nice thing about the vega was dual stock exhausts. you couldn't tell it had anything done to it unless you were behind it. real sleeper. Why just a 6.5? :evillol:

Then you have a weight problem, unless you go to a tubine engine. :D A 1500hp GE should fit in there.

A 6.2/6.5 will be heavy enough! lol. Youre right ed the handling will be effected. That is a common problem with guys that run V8 pintos. This would be more from the cool factor than anything. It'd be great for mileage and just to show off. And the smoke shows would be impressive too :D

I think there used to be a guy on here with a 6.5 in a chevy nova and a guy with a 6.5 in a corvette. Havent seen them on in a while.

I say go for it! A pinto with a 6.2/6.5 would be a very unique ride for sure

i vote for the pinto wagon.... mid mounted engine too 50/50 weight balance

eliminates the need to mess with the cross over and gives plenty of room for a propane system and batt's

I worked with a pinto with a 351 cleveland in it. Smoked 'em till they popped, but turned and stopped poorly.
Built my own '74(IIRC) Ford courier pickup with a Hemi in it; extended the cabin(seat) back into the camper shell area; cut, r&r the firewall, fabbed mounts for leafs and a solid front axle, ran a 727 auto trans. Didn't go well around corners, chained the original motor to the inside of the tailgate to get SOME traction.

6.2 with mechanical everything would be a lot easier in the details than a 6.5td with computer IMO. The wagon with a midship mount would be SOOO SNEAKY, with dark tint windows, or steel plates with louvers! Handling will be better than stock. Fab some frame rails, cut the floor, and go to it! Boy, I'd love to help. I remember when we sectioned 3 feet out of the middle of a VW bus; wheelie machine!!!
