Friend has problems with idling on his 02 GMC duramax. It wants to surge when idling and while going down the road if he takes his foot off the accelerator the engine won't slow past 1500 rpm's or more. This is an intermittent problem and he wants to find out something before going to the dealer. Thanks for any help Jeff

Sounds like a FPR(Fuel Pressure Regulator) on the pump. Does the engine sound like it has a big cam in it?

He said it sounds like it is surging. He has about 50,000 miles on it.

Took it to the dealer and they said dirty injectors. Charged him $140.00 to clean flush them. It don't sound right to me. Anyone else have something like this done ??????

Fuel Pressure Regulator. I am getting mine replaced next week. Was surging before and after my injector replacement, and that was 30k miles ago.

Well, took my 2001 Duramax to dealer because of suspected fuel injectors. Check injectors-replaced fuel rail (1). Went to pick up and they said still surges. Injectors have not been replaced. So still in shop-surging away. 83,000 miles. After 4 days in shop the last replacement was fuel pressure regulator.
