01' grill replacement questions

OK...I have an 01' 2500HD GMC

grill is peeling... road rash etc...

I'd like to freshen it up a bit and would like to put a newer model grill on it (up to an 07{preferably} sierra classic)
any ideas if this would fit?I believe the grills are the same on the 1500 and 2500HD's only difference is the spacer...the design of the 01's bumper cover I think eliminates the need for the spacer...

I'd also like to consider a newer style (03 up) bumper with the painted fairing and bumper pad...if that comes out cheaper than an after market steel bumper

so any idea what it would take to make the bumper work as well...custom fabricated brackets or just interchanging different part #'s...

Thanks,

Pepp

I think you can put a GMC front on the truck- have to change the hood, headlamps, turn/parking lamps, wiring, grille, bumper, bumper brackets, bumper filler. Lots of $$$.

Others may chime in with more detail.

i'm almost positive you'd need to change your front bumper as well..the headlights and marker lights are the same....the chrome plastic gm uses on them is junk my 03's grill is in worse shape than my chevelles and its 39yrs old!

Pepp, you'd have to buy an 03-07 GMC grill (for an HD -- about $250 used) and also an 03-07 GMC bumper cover (another $300). If the cover doesnt have foglights, you'll need the 03-07 fogs, too.

Tom,

Isn't the 01's grille the same as a 1500? the Hd's grille on newer trucks has an additional spacer but the 01's the upper bumper cover makes up for that space...

and would all this stuff be bolt on?

Some say the frame horns are different on 03 up trucks...I just don't know...

yes on the 01-02 grill. The bumper cover makes up the 2" gap.

It should be bolt on. I am unaware if the frame horns are different from 01 to 03. I'd have to see both year trucks to tell. Shoot me a pic of your bumper supports and I'll look at my truck and compare them.

I'll try and get the pics tomorrow...

so this leads me to believe if I do not go with the newer style bumper...I can use an 03-07 1500 series grille...

No. 01-02 grills are different from 03-07 The bottom border is more square on the newer grills.

Yeah..its kind of an expensive change. Heck, I forgot about the paint cost for that 03-up bumper cover.
I'm sure you could use that $700 or so for something a bit more "fun".

I'd like to get an IronBull Bumper to go with the newer style grille...

I still need to know about the frame horns...I'd have figured Ben would have chimed in here by now...he knows all this oddball stuff usually...

Well heck, why didnt you say that in the first place? LOL
If you're going to buy an Iron Bull bumper (very nice), go ahead and use the newer grill. You'll have to check with them about using a 1500 or 2500hd grill, though. They'd also know if the frame horns are different, as they'd have to have two different part numbers for the two styles.

they don't have 01 02 GMC's yet...but If the grilles matter due to the styling I'd want the newer style(grille and bumper Iron Bull or factory)...Iron Bull claims different frame horns but I'm not so sure... I think the big difference would be the factory bumper cover accounting for the spacer...

Someone awhile back told me the newer bumper and grille would bolt right up...
