: Removing plastic door pieces
dansdieselp 09-24-2008, 03:25 PM Has anyone removed the long black trim pieces that are on the doors below the 2500hd emblems? I saw a truck with them missing and it looked pretty cool. What does it take to remove these without causing doing any damage? With the truck being 4 years old, will there be a difference with the paint color that was under the trim vs. the paint that has seen the elements? Thanks
dentpusha 09-24-2008, 03:32 PM you can heat them up with a heat gun and pull them off.what color truck do you have, usually there is no diff beween the coverd part and the uncovered part.i use paint thinner to remove the double sided tape.darker colors may need to be buffed out a lil bit
05 white knight 09-24-2008, 03:34 PM Anyone post up some pics. I have been thinking about this too.
dansdieselp 09-24-2008, 05:38 PM My truck is black. I think it makes it look better with them off.
ickman99 09-24-2008, 10:55 PM Pic in my garage of them removed, My white ones kept turning yellow and I wash my truck all the time. I decided they had to go.
dansdieselp 09-25-2008, 09:20 PM Well i got the plastic pieces off and power washed the tape off. Now i'm trying to remove the tape residue on the doors. It seems to be coming off with paint thinner, but it also seems to be taking the shine out of the paint. When i'm done what can i do to put the shine back in the dull area? It does look a lot nicer with them off the doors.
dentpusha 09-25-2008, 09:24 PM lightly rub with the rag and thinner.drench the rag with it the more the better.black will usually need some light buffing to return shine.
badbowtie169 09-25-2008, 09:45 PM after you get all the residue off put a coat of wax on her, the thinner is removing you wax on the truck
frogger1946 09-26-2008, 12:01 AM I need to get a garage up and going. I took mine off along time ago on my 04. Made it look great. Just took all off it off my 08 and I am not sure that there is too much white on the new trucks. My advitar is my truck debadged with Tahoe handles. 3M makes a great adhesive remover that I used. You can get it any parts store I would think. Good luck. I am totally a fan on the classic truck to get rid of the molding.
jackh 09-26-2008, 02:50 PM ^ got any pics?

CWILCOX1828 09-26-2008, 11:18 PM my truck had 102k on it when i did this and you would never know they were ever there

Same here. All my molding did was trap sand and salt. I took them off when the truck was maybe 6 months old, so there were no issues. Now I do all I can to avoid door dings...so far so good. Took off the 2500 emblems too, looks cool with just the dmax badges, never seen another truck like that.
dansdieselp 09-27-2008, 06:43 PM I got them off and it looks a lot nicer. Just gotta do a little buffing, but no big deal. I am debating about removing the 2500 badges also.

Do it! Mine look good on my tool box. I might give the dmax badges a couple coats of that vht spray tint and clear, for the subdued look.

neilltz 10-07-2008, 08:19 AM I personally would never use paint thinner. WD40 or GooGone will break down the glue/adhesive in quick time and is harmless to the paint. Might require a little rubbing with a cloth once the adhesive is turned to "mush". Just wash with soap and water when done to remove residue.
dansdieselp 10-07-2008, 11:03 AM Hey Joe I forgot that you did that also. I just gotta buff the paint a little and give her a coat of wax. How's your truck runnin? Are you going to put more parts on anytime soon? Feel free to stop in if you see my truck in the driveway.
MUD SLUT 10-08-2008, 02:52 PM Will do.
