Hey guys, I am a Dmax guy and don't read much in the Cummins section, but my assistant manager at work has a new 600 3500 dually. Occaisonally I take it for a drive when I have to drop off something long (I have a shortbed). Several times at job sites I put the truck in park (at least the dash lights says so) and it's still in reverse. This happened twice, once while I was in the process of getting out of the truck. So, I mentioned it to him, and he said it he though he noticed it too. So, he took it back and they supposedly fixed it (I think they may have flashed it). Well, I drove it the other day and began to notice what I felt was a slight slip upon takeoff from a dead stop. He claims this is so "his massive amount of torque doesn't tear his trailer (which he doesn't have or pull anything with) in half upon takeoff". I am only used to my Allison, is this normal? Is there really a built in delay? I think he should be a little more concerned about it. He had a white 03 cummins before this (exact same setup as this one minus the 600) and it didn';t have the 4:10s this one does and was a real turd. The new one runs alot better, save for the wierd slip feel at takeoff?
Any ideas?

The torque convertors are junk on these trucks. Also the 600 has a torque management system to prevent tearing up the tranny, automatics only as far as I know.

So this delay is the torque management? And I assume this is normal?

My truck does the same thing. Especially noticable in the mornings.....start it up, back out of garage.....no power. Put into drive and start moving and power is there once forward speed is detected. You would swear the transmission is slipping until you get used to the torque management. It works fine plowing etc and hardly noticable when warmed up. Definately not an allison......maybe someday!

Yep, normal for an automatic. As stated above, especially noticeable when the truck is cold.
