Picked up my 05 CC Dually 2wd on sat. Ran the wheels off it this week and just hit 4200 miles. Had 17 on the odometer when I left the dealer. Best MPG has been 17.12 empty on flat ground 65mph, worst loaded very windy (45mph gusts)with 28 ft travel trailer was about 9-:t . Hope it gets better, my 24 valve was 22 avg empty and 13 loaded. I do love the power and the allison is great. Best part of the week was kicking a 6 liter Fords but coming out of a toll in Indiana. Talked to him a rest stop and he was running a programmer, exh, air filter etc. I never even had it to the floor):h ):h . Now comes the test, to see how it holds up running 3600-4200 miles a week. Glad you like your new ride Karl...And welcome aboard http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/beerchug.gif
If you have some time this weekend, you might want to service that truck a bit....Change the oil and definetely change the rear end lube too while you're at it....
Enjoy your new ride!

Thats the plan for tomm. Have to leave on Sunday to run to Golden, Co and back. Its only a 2400 roundtrip. Then get another trailer on wed. It never ends. Alredy have the oil and filter (wix). Planning on doing the rear next week and putting in synthetic. Karl
I think in a year rv-puller may become our new mileage champion.

I always wonder how people get these hauling gigs. Somedays I'd love to turn in my laptop and keys and just drive for a year. Than again, rush hour traffic, bad weather, etc. Where's the perfect job that pays extremely well and let's you do what you want ):h

Some of you guys need to blow the dust off of those trucks and use them! I thought mine sat in the driveway too much, and I have about 18K with its one-year anniversary this month. Of course with Diesel and gas over $2, it is probably not a bad time to let them sit...

Hey Karl,
Another site member who is also a professional hauler recently posted saying he has over 400,000 mile on his Allison without any problems. (Unfortuneately the old style LB7 engine only went 282,000 due to several repeated injector failures, dumping diesel in the crank case.)
Are you planning to add an engine oil bypass system for extended oil drains? Two popular ones for the DMax discussed on this board are the Amsoil System and the Oilguard. Do a search and you will get a lot of information. Greg L, a supporting vendor has the Amsoil and offers it at fair price.
At 65 MPH, empty, no wind, I would expect a dually to get 18.5 MPG. I do not know what year your old Dodge was, but Dodge took a fuel mileage hit in 2004.5 (like the Dmax) with the additional emmision requirements. My guess from reading postings on the TDR web site, is that the DMax is getting at least 1 mpg better economy. Here is a current thread on this board discussing mileage for the DMax Dually:
