Hello folks. I'm new to the DIY of diesel mechanics (make that i'm a noob to workin on anything diesel) and I'd like to know how much work is involved in making an engine swap.
I've got a '96 Chevy Express 3500 with a blown 6.5 turbocharged engine, and I'm looking at replacing the engine with a '93 6.2 NA engine with 450km's on it (about 280k miles for my American friends out there..)
One thing that I know right off the bat is that my '96 is a drive by wire with the electric injection pump, and the '93 has a mechanical inj. pump which would mean running a throttle cable to my right foot (big deal).
But, I don't know if the engine and tranny mounts are the same, what computer should I use, if exhaust and intake manifolds are interchangeable, what kind of work/parts will I need if I install my turbo from the 6.5 etc, and basic things that I need to look out for, provided that I do go ahead and make the engine swap.
I am completely new to this sort of thing, and I would appreciate any help or suggestions or comments. If I missed any of the important details, please let me know!
