Ready to buy a new 5th wheel trailer. Want to know the what length and weight others are pulling. Does the tongue weight matter?
Don't want to get sucked into salesmans BS.
Thanks

What do you have for a truck? SRW or Dually?

2500 CC sounds like a SRW. Yes pin weight matters, A BUNCH! Do a search on the trailering/hotshot forum for more info on what guys are pulling with their rigs.
Normally I recommend that folks find the RV they like first then go for the tow vehicle. Your already in with a 2500. Check out the GVWR of the 5ver you are looking at, remember their posted weights usually don't include any options. Tack on another 1000 pounds for all your stuff, even more with a toy hauler. Then determine what the pin weight and GCWR will be. Then we'll talk! ;)
Good luck. Once you've had a chance to look at some units post on the trailering/hotshot forum and the guys will help you out. Later. JJ :)

I have a 37.5' toyhauler 5th wheel that weighs 15k fully loaded. I had a 2003 GMC Crew short bed 2500HD 4x4. It pulled it fine...no lack of power, but I was concerned about the pin weight...2600 lbs, so I just upgraded to a 2005 GMC Crew Dually 4x4...should give me a lot more stability.
The 2500 HD is a great tower, but you are going to exceed the pin weight with the bigger trailers. The axles will be fine, but it doesn't have the springs or the extra tires to support the weight. If you're going with something really heavy...get a dually!

I am pulling a 35ft toyhauler fifth wheel with the harleys and water/ fuel in the trailer i'm grossing about 12,200lbs pulls fine feels fairly stable (not quit as stable as the ole dually)But at 80mph all the way to sturgis last aug i was happy
(except for the 7mpg) but what do you want for pulling 12xxx at 80:exactly:

I've got a 03 Challenger 5ver, about 12K loaded. No problems with overheating. Really pleased with the way the grade barking works on the Tranny.:cool2:

I would recommend that you do not exceed 2000lbs pin weight and remember that the pin weight from the manufacture is the pin weight of the FW without options. Usually the GVWR of your truck will be the first to be maxed out. With a 9200lb GVWR of your truck and an estimated weight of your truck at 7200lbs, it only leaves the 2000lbs for the pin weight. Do your math and ask the dealer to give you actual weights.
