I am hoping someone out there can clarify the results of my last two oil analysis's. I should mention breifly the recent problems with my truck.

2 failed injectors (did oil analysis before GM replaced the 2 failed injectors) Please see the results listed under test 1(Note: the oil for this analysis was Delvac 1300)

After the 2 injectors were replaced GM had me drive it home and bring it back the next morning. On my way back to the dealership I had fuel in my crank again.

This time all 8 injectors were replaced.
I drove 4700kms since the replacement and did another analysis. Please see the results listed under test 2 Note: (Oil for this test had AMSOIL 15W40 Synthetic)

:ro) The copper and lead are way high and these are materials found in bearings, I think I would be asking questions about a special extended warranty on the engine, and particularly on the bearings and any collateral damage that could be caused by bearing failure.:eek:

I think I would spend the money on another analysis to verify the second test. I personally don't believe "0" copper on the first test and "0" tin on the second. Babbitt as used in bearings has a high percentage of tin (around 95 %) if I am not mistaken. 10% by volume of fuel certainly screwed the first test. Later! Frank

Yep, looks like your bearings took some abuse. If I'm reading the chart correctly, fuel dilution caused your oil's viscosity to drop into the low 20 weight range. Your lead reading isn't too far over the 50 ppm acceptable range, but the copper is pretty high. Be thankful you have good documentation with your oil analysis. I really don't think there has been a whole lot of damage done to your bearings, but I'm certainly no expert. Take dirty's advice, & try to get a warranty extension. High potassium could be coolant.

PS What kind of air filter are you using to get that silicon reading?

dmax2003, I've been doing and reading oil analysis for 20 years and feel the let you know the importance of extracting the sample oil within 7-8 minutes of shut down because anything longer will allow the metal particulate to settle out and not be picked up in the sample. I don't know but I suspect that may be why there were several zeros in the first report. Please take the time and effort to draw two more samples within a couple thousand miles of one another. If possible use the same brand oil (your choice) so you can compare apples to apples. Different brands of oil will have different additive packages and could make comparison more difficult.

I also agree with the poster above, it just seems that whenever potassium shows up in the report an internal coolant leak is not far behind. Watch closely for it to increase in the next two samples. Once the second report comes back things will be a lot clearer for you.

Thanks for all the replies. With regards to the first oil analysis, the reason there is alot of 0's is because I was aware of fuel in my crank and I was concerned about running it more than I had to. I just wanted to have a confirmation that fuel was in my crank. I have shown the dealership both test results and they say they are concerned. I will be going in tomorrow to discuss this further ... (extended warranty ... how long?) Any thoughts are appreciated. I will also take another analysis once I have put another 2000 miles.

As mentioned above, what air filter are you using? Silicon is indicative of induction problem.
