Has anyone used the clamp method to install their pyrometer probe pre-turbo? If so, where and was it easier than the manifold method. Just wondering what the best way to go was as far as simple removal.

the best place for a true reading is the manifold and in all honesty it takes all of 10 minutes to drill and tap. if you remove it, just put a bolt or plug in it. shouldn't be any dealer issues since its not a performance upgrade, only a monitoring tool.

I am somewhat mechanically inclined, however I was paranoid about drill and tap.

I recently put in the edge/attitude.

Yes I did the drill and tap, and it was a snap. It took more time to take the fender liner off that doing the tapping.

Be sure to look for the "hoot method" in the do it yourself forum.

Whether pre or post turbo could be determined by the meter you buy. Some have green, yellow, and red zones shown. Those zones are adjusted for the 200-300 deg difference between pre and post. It your meter is just numerical then it does not matter.

It you are doing this for an Attutude, it must be pre, in the manifold.

i've got a worm clamp type probe on my drivers side manifold to turbo pipe. it came from exhaust gas technologies and was meant for my snowmobile... it looked too easy, so i drilled the (3/16th?) hole and clamped it on...absolutely no problems and i'm reading the same pre turbo temps as the others i've done in the passenger manifold.

I removed the fender liner and took my truck to a local exhaust place that installs lots of these. They drilled and tapped and installed the probe (manifold) for $50. Could have done it myself but my bits of the proper size were dull and I was lazy.
