: glowplug light/wait to start
fmich7867 03-11-2005, 01:12 PM I have never noticed my wai to start light staying illuminated for more than a few seconds. Changed oil and all of a sudden it stays on for about 15-20sec on the first startup of the day.. any ideas. it never stayed on for more than about 3sec even in temps below 20 deg..
axedental 03-11-2005, 01:31 PM I noticed the same EXACT thing with my truck (2004 duramax).
I just chalked it up to being colder out. Is this normal?
15-20 sec. Not normal. My oil has been changed and still only stays on for a few sec. even in 0 degree weather.
fmich7867 03-11-2005, 01:53 PM not saying oil change had anything to do with it just noticed time for light seemed to become much longer could have been doing it all along.
SSNIGHTMARE 03-11-2005, 02:12 PM I agree 15-20 sec is to long. I have the older lb7 and my light only stays on for 4-5 secs when its down around 0 F.
Max Power 03-11-2005, 02:16 PM The longest I have ever seen my glowplug light come on for is 3-4 seconds even down to -30 and below.
briano 03-11-2005, 02:29 PM 20 seconds is WAY too long for the LLY. Their have been some issues with the glow plug system so do a search on that or take it in, don't want to get stranded anywhere.
Even first thing in the mornings, cold, everything..it shouldn't stay on longer than 4 seconds. After that its so quick you don't even notice it.
Carson Smith 03-11-2005, 04:27 PM My 04.5LLY had a similar problem a couple months ago. I noticed the light stay on longer than normal once and I started it before it went off. The next morning it didn't come on at all but started fine ( it was only about 35 degrees) and it showed a SES message. I took it in and they changed the glow plug module. At least I think that's what they called it. Since the dealer had it in stock my guess is it is not uncommon.
lakingslayer 03-11-2005, 06:26 PM Glow plug module. If yours has a yellow dot on it then you have the old one. The dealer should replace it with one with a green dot.
fmich7867 03-11-2005, 06:54 PM ran up to the stealership! Guess what the glowplug module is bad and part is on order be in tuesday.:ro)
May I ask what the lighted icon looks like on the dash?

No problems with mine but I would like to identify if I have the old or new one. Where do I find the glow plug module?
lakingslayer 03-11-2005, 10:04 PM May I ask what the lighted icon looks like on the dash?
It's the yellow check engine light in the left upper quadrant of the display.
briano 03-11-2005, 10:10 PM It's the yellow check engine light in the left upper quadrant of the display.
for the glow plug light? Mine looks like a half infinity symbol, but is next to the check engine light area..
is yours different or am I stoned again? lol.. (kidding on the stoned part)
lakingslayer 03-12-2005, 01:09 AM Sorry. I'm stoned. I wish I knew on what. I thought vrod was talking about the CEL. Mine looks like a pig tail to the left of the CEL.
The glowplug module (CA emissions truck not sure about others) is on the driver side of engine close to the firewall by the big black plastic piece that says 6.6L etc. It's about 3"X3" (black) with a couple of wire harnesses connected to it.
Yes, the glow plug light. I know it is a dumb question and it is not in the manual.
T-Rex 03-12-2005, 08:03 PM I think the "glow plug light" is called the "wait to start" light in my manual.
lakingslayer 03-12-2005, 11:04 PM Look in the Diesel supplemental manual.
sierra04boise 03-19-2005, 11:50 AM Wait to start light (staying on for more than 30 seconds, for first start of the day) just started happening to me this week with 50F outside temp. Quick trip to the stealer, my LLY was showing code U0106 and they have a glow plug control module on order for me! BTW.. the GPC module has the Yellow mark on the top of it!!
