my wife's check engine light is on. dealer cleaned the egr, sent her home and it came back on (he said it probabily will). off course he said she could tow a pretty heavy, trailer next week home from a horse show with a CEL while we wait for an egr valve to show up.

what i want to know is what's the egr doing while the CEL is on and she's towing? do they fail open or closed or does anyone know. I don't want to damage my future truck.

after the new one goes in I'm seriously thinking about blocking it but I'm afraid (and hoping) that someday they'll fix this problem for good in these trucks and find the fingerstick.

p.s. they replaced a battery in the dash to fix the hour meter and now it reads 100 hrs where before it read 600 hours... yeah for us.

What code do you have? If it is P0403 then the valve is sticking somewhat and the mass flow air sensor knows it so gives you a code. I have had this on and off for 2 years and have not had any issues with it. I reset with my scan gauge so I know it is the only code.

When I reset it usually stays off until the next day and that may happen a few time then it gives up for a while.

Just make sure that there is no other code that could be a problem.

I get the P0403 code every now and then while towing. It started when I opened the exhaust up. I have a blocker plate on the way now.
