I was trying to install a pilot bushing (the one that goes into the back of crank) and while putting it in i realized that i damaged the front of the bushing. I then looked at the instructions and it said to fill the inside with grease and take a wooden plug/dowel that was snug, and hit it in the hole, and the pressure would push the bushing out. I then did all of those steps and it doesn't work. The first dowel i used cracked down the middle due to the pressure of the grease and in the other one i made, the grease just comes out around the plug. Is there any other ways i can get it out???

Don't laugh.....toilet paper. A small bucket of water, some toilet paper, and find something metal that fits farely snug inside the bushing hole (preferabley with in .100" or 1/16"). You do the same thing you did with the grease and dowel. I typically use a deep well socket and an old extension you don't mind beating on. Take a wad of tp and put it in the bucket of water. Once saturated, tear off pieces and stuff the pilot bushing full. Keep stuffing till the tp is sticking out of the hole. Next, put your socket on the extension and fill the socket. Once that is done, beat the socket, or whatever else you find to use, into the hole with a hammer about 3 swats. Refill the hole and socket, then 3 more swats. I've been using this method for over 20 years and it works EVERY time. Just keep stuffing in the wet tp. Don't expect to see the bushing start to move out of the crank untill about the 3rd or 4th time you restuff the hole and socket, but once it starts, the progress will be obvious. Once you have the bushing out, use a punch thru the backside of your socket to get the compressed tp out. The tp that is in the crank should be compressed dry and will come out easily with a screwdriver or pick.:beerchug:

Thanks for the help. I got it out, and am installing a new one, although it is a bearing one, not the bushing kind due to the fact that napa can't get a bushing kind, and the last one came with the clutch kit.

Theres nothing wrong with the bearing type, just make sure its a snug, not tight fit on the input shaft and that you have plenty of grease in behind the bearing...oh and don't drive the bearing all the way in...flush is about where you want it.

Thanks for the help.:thumb: I got the new bearing installed properly, and should now hopefully get the engine bolted up by Monday.
