: Are "footprints" on ecm dated?

I purchased my truck as a certified pre-owned truck. I was very impressed with the power and fuel economy the truck gave. Whenever I brought my truck in for the ECM update I was informed that there was a program on the ecm and the update would erase it. I did not know any better and gave the tech the O.K. to reflash. I have been unhappy ever since:(.

I now want to purchase a tuner. Since I bought the vehicle as "certified" they will not be able to hold a programmer over my head since it was on the vehicle when I purchased it. So know I need to know if the reflashes are "dated" on the ecm. And If not I also need some input on a handheld tuner, I was getting a real world 22 mpg on the highway when first purchased.

Any help would be appreciated.

i only had to look at one...

I don't remember any dates in there....

Regardless ... keep the tunes small and you won't have an issue and you won't need to worry about the tune / warranty.

Need a PPE standard Tuner? :D

I have 'em

Actually PPE is the tuner brand I am considering, which one would allow me to move up to a DPF delete whenever the time comes?

the "RACE" Version

standard and up can be upgraded to a RACE version but they must become a (Hot or HOT + 2).

Economy cannot.

I am not 100% sure but i believe the pricing is
standard to a hot = $300
Hot to hot+2 + $600

dpf delete is only available with a hot or hot +2 tuner. I don't believe there is a charge to make a hot into a hot RACE.

Hope this helps.

Drop by Big Tex and talk with Jason at the parts counter. He has given me the name & # of a local D-Max tuner who lives in Johnson Bayou. Claims power increase and 25mpg not towing. I'm having my B&W gooseneck hitch installed tomorrow and will try to get more data.

Also, some guys are buying a new ECM, take the factory one out, program the new one and re-install factory ECM when going in for service. Kennedy Diesel offers these tuned extra ECM options. So far mine is stock (1,100mi) but I'm doing my home work to determine how to keep extended warranty inplace and tune for moderately more mpg + hp.

Well I ordered my programmer, I hope you have luck with the guy from Johnson Bayou. After All-Star reflashed my computer my fuel economy has gone to pot. I read an article in a diesel magazine and it showed them getting a real world mpg of 25 with a PPE tuner. I am not expecting that but 22 sure was nice. Also All-Star is not mod friendly from what I gather, heard anything about Billy?

What I found out from Big Tex is that the guy from J Bayou uses PPE product to re-program. If that is the devide you selected, he may be able to share some of his experience. Again Jason Doty at the parts counter will be glad to give you the guy's name & number. I just don't think it right fo rme to write it here as I have not yet spoken with him.

My first 2 mileage checks are awful!!!! around 10mpg. The first tank checke was w/o towing, the second tank was 1/2 towing 1/2 around town. I sure as heck hope this is just break-in mileage. I'll know more realistically as we get more miles driven, we are only at about 1600mi so far.

"Billy" and I have not yet spoekn about modifications. I would approach them about installation of Gale Banks air intake and dual exhaust to improve air flor and reduce exhaust temperature as my initial approach. I definitely do not wish to void the $1,900 extended warranty that I bought. But 10mpg S _ _ Ks!

Are any of the major tuner brands looking into being able to erase the aftermarket footprints stored in the ECM? This would be a great feature!

I read on an EFI-live forum where one of their guru's was able to do it, but wouldn't give out the secret. Just do a search on there and you will find tons of info. And D-max, I think your fuel economy should get a whole lot better with time. At worst I get 17 MPG combined driving.
