I was on a other non diesel related forum and a guy was asking about a 95 K1500 with the diesel.

Did GM make a halfton diesel? I'm just curious!

There was a guy on another forum i frequent that was asking about 1/2's with TD's. Didnt' know they made 'em.

how do they compare to a 3/4 with a diesel.

the one this dude is looking at is a 95 ext cab with 133k for $9000. Seem right?

Same engine only different. GM has put diesel's in about everything the built in the truck line, and a few cars too, before switching to the D-Max. Now it can only be had in the HD line of truck ie 2500HD, 3500, and I think in the 1500HD's too.

a half ton is still a half ton, whether it has a diesel or a gasser. Might have a heavier rearend differential, but it's still going to have non floating axles like any other half ton out there.

When I bought my '95 I looked for a half-ton. I was after a vehicle that would get 20MPG consistant and still pull 6000lbs occasionally. So far my GMC has done just that, same mileage as my '89 4runner, twice the pulling power.

Snowdrift, I think you're mistaken

The half ton 6.5TD got a 4L80e trans which you could not get in any other half ton and a semi-floating 14 bolt rear end which was on the diesel 1500 and light duty 2500. Slightly beefier suspension to handle the extra weight and torque, etc some other minor things...

9000 for a 95 1500 !!!!:help:

I got my 93 2500 a few years back for $3400 because it had a bad auto trans. 9000 seems steep for a 95 let alone just a 1500.

Semi-crazy,

The 1500 LD was new for this current body style, I believe. With the 6.5 (some call classic) body style, there were 1500, 2500 light (6 lug), 2500 med. (8 lug non-floating), 2500 HD (8 lug full floating), 3500 light (8 lug non-floating) and 3500 HD (full floating). However, I'm not sure every chassis option was available with the diesel.

guy bb3,

on which point?

My intention was not to miff anyone, but just to make a point that just because it's a diesel, it doesn't make it 2500 HD chassis, as some folks think. The chassis is still, a half ton chassis. Torsion bars may be heavy for weight in the front, HD tranny and the rearend (pig) may be a GM corporate, instead of the usual Saginaw rear, but at the end of the axle is still a GM 6 lug half ton axle end. For example, it rides on a design in which in the event of an axle break, the rim and tire fall off. This isn't possible for the full floating axle, due to its design with the axle bolted to the hub on the outside.

Now, all that being said, I was only hoping to make sure everyone is safe with what they're using for towing/carrying is all. Really didn't intend to do more than that.

WELL When I first looked at the 1500HD there was no crew cab, like 2000 I think, And you could get a D-max in there too I think. I know you had to get the HD to get a D-MAX in that body style before the last styling change. Had about 3 inches more body to tell the difference.

I'm checking in to 94 1500 4x4 with a friend that is priced at $8900 at a local dealer but it only has 86,000 miles and appears pretty clean, but I would guess it could be had for 1,000-1,500 less if you know how to deal and this guy does. I do know where a 92 K2500 for much less but miles isunknow I bet high and condition ?????

Since he has a Suburban, I would guess that is what he is talking about. All of the diesel 1500 suburbans (or at least 4x4's) have 8 lug wheels and some or maybe all have F code engines.

Yep, mine's a '96 1500 suburban 4x4, has the F engine and the 14 bolt semi-floating rear.

Ya snowdrift, whatnot and joispoi hit it on the head. My suburban has 8 lugs and an F engine and it's only a 1500. Try buying parts though and all my stuff interchanges with the 2500. Didn't mean to offend you or sound upset. I just give short answers sometimes because keyboarding is such a chore for me.

Wow, I never gave the Suburban a thought. The whole time I was thinking regular truck, not a Burb. Sorry guys

I have a 6.5 TD 2500 Burb and a 6.5 TD 1500 Yukon. I love them both. I just wish diesel were more affordable.
