I am relatively new to the diesel scene with my 2002 Dmax. What do I need to do to make my truck last as long as possible? I change my oil myself every 3000 miles, and I am getting ready to change my fuel filter tomorrow. What else should I do?
Thanks,
Rico

Well first you might not want to change your oil every 3000 miles its a waste of money, change it about every 8. When you buy your fuel filter make sure you get the newer double pleate one, if you buy it from the dealer ask for it, you can tell if its the new one or not by the black line on it. Also, if you want to make your truck last forever, I would reccomend leaving it stock and changing everything at factory intervals, if you "chip" your truck, it will go faster and also wear out faster. Also, make sure no water gets into your tank, and never run your truck "on the wire", in terms of gas because if you ever run this truck out of gas it is a B*tch to bleed it. good luck:)

2wd or 4?
Auto or manual tranny?
How many miles?
Did you buy it new in '02?

Independent mechanic I know says to change auto tranny fluid and filter every 25,000 miles no matter what vehicle you are driving. He's 1,000 miles from me so it wasn't a sales pitch to get a buck or two off of me.

I would stick with changing the oil every 3,000 miles based on where you live. Every diesel owner here does it. In dry, dusty environments it's cheap insurance.

Here is what I do;
every 5k-engine oil and filter, fuel filter and tranny filter. Rotate tires and lube zerts.
At 50k I would change out all fluids-Diff's,transfer, tranny and coolant. Some of this may be over kill but you never know what the previous owner did or didn't do.
