: trailer wiring question

ok well the lights inside my enclosed trailer wont light up when plugged into the truck,everything else works fine, its got 6 prongs and one center one, seems that the battery feed to power up the inside trailer lights and winch isnt workin, any idea's, it has never worked since i bought the truck

Your owner's manual will point out that there is a fuse missing in the underhood fuse panel. IIRC, it's a 40 amp. I put mine in over 2 years ago, and my memory is bit foggy on it, but I do remember that you have to put a fuse in.

Look for the fuse first. There is a wiring diagram on the receptacle cover to make reading the contacts easier. Does your trailer have a place for a battery to run the winch? Later! Frank

I wouldn't run a winch off that factory wire, no way is it big enuf for that.

Look under the hood at the fuse box, there's a red plastic plug in place of a fuse, upper left corner, looking from drivers fender, take the plug out and install a 40 amp fuse in it's place.

It post # 2 in the fuse box under the hood. when you open it look at the big fuses. The second one is the one that you will need.

One other thing to consider is some trailers are wired with the aux or hot lead in the center and some have the trailer brakes in the center.
