Quick question for you guys with XM. Does yours cut out when going under an overpass at highway speeds?

Came in the truck, figured I'd dump it after the free time. Took the truck to the lake & wife liked the no commercials. She can't stand the commercials on her 45min-1.5hr comute to work. Thought maybe I'd keep it & get her one - cheaper for 2. So while trying to decide I've been listening to it more and notice it cuts out when going under an overpass even at 60mph. Before I buy one for her I need to know if this is normal. I figured it would have a buffer or delay to compensate for momentary loss of signal. The commercials drive her nuts but can only imagine what the cutting out will do - her commute has an overpass every couple miles!

Yes it is normal. The only exception is if you are in a city that has a repeater.

Some larger cities have terrestrial broadcast antennas to prevent cut-outs.

Thanks Guys!! I would think Boston would have a repeater if anywhere did? Guess I'll have to test drive her commute before I decide. Once again this forum ROCKS!

Here in SoCal I get cutouts in certain areas as well.

i live around DC and the 80s chanel braudcasts from here and i have a cutout spot on TOP of an overpass...imagine that...its only for a couple of seconds tho and kind of funny.
i cant get rid of it now, hooked onit before my 3 month trial was over and my comute is most days around 30 mins.

I have the problem occasionally in the San Diego area. I also have an aftermarket system in my car and the only time it cuts out is inside parking arcades. I'm wondering if the factory antenna is the culprit.

...inside parking arcades...
Sorry for what may be a stupid quesiton, but what in the heck is a "parking arcade?" It sounds like some kind of drive-through video game parlor.

yeah it sounded dumb when I wrote it. What I meant was a multilevel parking lot. But for some reason arcade sounded ok when I wrote it. That's what I get for over taxing my last brain cell so much

Parkade is the word you were looking for.
