I just bought the latest issue, October, of Diesel Power magazine. They have an 8 page write up covering the entire engine and most of the details about it's design. They interviewed the executive director of Diesel engineering for GM, Charlie Freese.

I really love the all of the thinking that was involved with this motor. I think this motor could possibly save the truck/suv market as long as it's not too over priced of an option. There's tons of pictures. The heads don't even look like their real. If the engine performes as well as the design of the motor looks it's going to be a monumental step. They can take this design and impliment it on direct injection turbocharged gas motors. Sky's the limit folks, these are good times to come.

The end ain't near with the $ 25 BILLION bailout coming from the Feds. $ 25 BILLION we will borrow from the Chinese or whoever is stupid enough to lend the US money.

I hate it when people are negative about the truck market and our economy. I am only 22 years old but even I know the market will dip toward the end of a presidency. It just so happens that our president was running the economy into the ground to begin with, so the it is takeing a bigger dip than usual. Everything will be fine by this time next year. If you feel like being negative go find yourself a corner and cry in it.

That looks a lot like a standard SBC bolt pattern on the bell housing. Easy to make an adapter and the possibilities are truly endless.

I just can not wait for this motor to come out for the public to purchase. If it comes in a Suburban that I can afford my wife is losing her Tahoe!!!:D

Oh this is already decided. I don't care what it comes in my wife will be driving the baby duramax once it hits the lot. her freakin Trailblazer is a gas hog.

I like that the fuel filter is placed down below so it can be easily serviced like an oil filter and not the tight squeeze like the 6.6.

I'm curious as to what the aftermarket will be doing on this engine.

Looks like the turbo is really buried in there. Very tight package. I wonder how you'd get an aftermarket turbo in there?

Tell me about, my wife has a Trailblazer too and granted it is/has been a great vehicle it's worse on gas than my truck is at times.
Can't wait for this to be released!

It takes more than one man to run an economy into the ground. IIRC, the congress actually derives and passes laws, the President either says "Yea" or "Nay".

Since you are only 22 years old, maybe you should go back and read about some of the things that were happening in the government with regards to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in the middle 90's.

Regards,

You can pick any year in time and find stupid shit that they did. Bottom line, nobody wants to hear pissing and moaning, most of us get enough from our spouce and/or children.

I don't know how any one in their right mind can say that they're going to "kill" this engine. I've read projections on Ford, Dodge.....all of their engines don't even come close to what this motor will do. Trucks and SUV's are taking a big hit but look what they have out there to offer for an alternative people hauler. The enclave/arcadia won't tow a frozen dog turd and will only get you low 20's for economy. You slap this baby in a tahoe or half ton CC, you can to anything with ease and get even better economy. Everybody wants to have their cake and eat it too. As long as they don't get greedy and over price this motor, they've got a winner on their hands.

I'm cheap as hell and I'm having a hard time talking myself out of buying it. Can you immagine being in a truck that can do anything you want and get better than 20mpg all day! Any truck I've ever owned that had balls barely gave me 11.5mpg, and none of them will tow like this one will. One word baby, Sold.

Goldsburg, thanks for clarifying for the kids.:)

The valley side exhaust port is something that I think you will see more of in GM products. This year they completed a clean sheet design of a purpose built race engine for use in the USAC midget series. Tony Stewart Racing is the designated factory team using this engine with drivers Tracy Hines and Levi Jones. This architectue opens up a lot of possibilities.

How protected is the oil filter going to be when it's sitting in the truck? It seems to be out in front. I wouldn't expect any crap to get thrown up in to it...but with my luck...

The 3/4 and 1 tons have skid plates over that area IIRC, they'd better carry that over on this as well.

They will have to offer some sort of protection for the filter. I am also amazed that people think that this motor will be killed.

I was at my dealership a couple weeks ago talking to service manager and sales manager/owener. The owner thinks the motor will be canned because of high fuel prices, but the service manager is the total opposite thinking. I never have believed a car salesman and never will.
