: Light weight lifting
kbstinky 03-10-2005, 05:16 PM Does anyone know if a very lightweight "crane" is available for our trucks.
Would like one that mounts in/on the bed rail
I want to lift and swing into the bed a 175 lb generator.
I am getting to old to heft it up by hand.
Don't want to bolt it to the bed.
Thanks
pepperidge 03-10-2005, 05:56 PM I've seen em' that lift electric wheel chairs and such at the front corner of the bed, don't know how they mount though.. but maybe do a search on electric wheelchairs or something... just a thought...
DuckhunterInTN 03-10-2005, 06:23 PM How do you want it to mount?
I've seen some before, but they all have to mount somehow to the bed of the truck....
ssduramax 03-10-2005, 06:35 PM check www.truckstv.com
look around on there, i saw stacey mount one on one episode about 6 months ago. it was strong enough to load a engine block but was light enought to handle.
BiteMe 03-10-2005, 06:51 PM What about this???

kbstinky 03-10-2005, 10:17 PM Thanks guys.
The spitzlift looks like its close to what I want.
Now I have to chase one down.
pepperidge 03-10-2005, 10:51 PM How about getting rid of the 175# generator and getting two honda eu2000's(46#'s ea.) patched together for 4000w two lightweight reliable gens and when you only need one that's all you have to deal with...
Money better spent than on an expensive lift... JMHO
bruce625 03-10-2005, 11:58 PM there is a company that makes a crane that folds into the bumber. I know one our vendors has one on his truck. The downside is you have to change bumpers.
If you would like I can call and get the name.

Kinda nice...
kbstinky 03-11-2005, 11:15 AM "Pep" why didn't you suggest that 6 months ago. LOL
No to the Schlegal, to big.
I currently use two "ramps" to slide it into the bed, then heft it around.
Thanks again.

You didn't ask me...LOL
Ithink your gonna pay for whatever lift you get probably around $1k min. ...
Sell your gen. and get two honda's I'm thinking the same thing just to have a/c in my new 20 ft. work trailer. better than carting one huge gen around all the time and worrying about space or weight. Those parallel cables arent cheap, but well worth it. Then I can haul one in the boat with some lights on a pole for some good night fishing... quiet too...can hardly hear those things run...
As far as spending more $$ your health is worth every penny... that ought to sell it to the little lady...

ratlover 03-11-2005, 04:31 PM What about a tomy gate? The lifting tailgates?
kbstinky 03-11-2005, 04:54 PM Pep,
You are just full of helpful, and expensive, suggestions.
This idea of the twin Hondas is a good one. When I researched the generator last year, I decided to go with the Yamaha because I was told that the 2 to 1 converter box was blowing up the Honda's. Oh well.
May look at doing it anyway.
Talked to Pete this afternoon, and he suggested that I look at putting a small, home made winch in the receiver.
Will look at that.
Rat,
I do not want this to be permanent. I only want to use it a couple times a year.
Thanks guys
DuckhunterInTN 03-11-2005, 05:10 PM kbstinky,
can you fabricate? (have welder, etc)
kbstinky 03-11-2005, 06:29 PM Duck,
Have welder will travel. Oops, that was Have Gun Will Travel. For us older folks that was a really good shootem up western TV program.
Onward. Yes I do have a welder. However, it has been so many years, I am not sure I could do anything but spray metal all over. But it is a good idea.
Pep,
I really am glad you suggested Harman. I have a friend that cannot drive any more and had a Harman lift taken out of the trunk of his car. In fact I took him to the store to have it done. I offered him $100 for it, and he said yes. It is like brand new. It has been in his trunk and protected from the elements. Most importantly it will lift 400lbs.
All I would have to do is construct (as Duck suggested) an adapter that goes in my receiver with a vertical arm and mounting plate that I would mount the Harman lift to.
I am so smart.................
Thanks again for the thought provoking ideas.
pepperidge 03-11-2005, 11:19 PM Get your friends model # and Call Harman and see if they can adapt that lift to a the truck bed mount...
The lift boom and post are usually removeable from the mount bracket...
Maybe just buy the truck bed mount and all will be fine... theres nothing wrong with leaving the base in the bed...JMO
kbstinky 03-12-2005, 10:07 AM I will be picking up the lift on Monday.
Will let you know how it comes out.
Have a good one.
