I have a '93 3/4 ton pickup with 6.5L TD, 5 speed trans and the transfer case jumps out of gear when you let off the throttle. Sometimes violently. It seems to happen more frequently at higher speeds. I'm assuming the trans case needs rebuilt. What model is the transfer case? Where is the best place to get a kit? I am fairly mechanically inclined, and I would like to do this myself. Are there any special tools needed?

There is a tag on the left side of the case in the back, it has all your model information on it. Make sure it isnt the floor shifter linkage being worn, loose,bent or out of adjustment causing the problem first. I would check the price of one already rebuilt or even new, a lot of the new ones are in the 1300 dollar range, you can end up with close to that in parts, if you do a total rebuild, plus you end up with a warranty.
