They are really not apples to apples. PPE is a tuner that has the same off the self tunes as the next guy running it. Efi is software that allows the user to change the ecm program to an almost infinte number of different settings. It kind of depends on your plan for your truck and the way you use the truck and how comfortable you would be writing tunes or making changes to tunes already written by some else. A lot of the vendores that sell Efi include tune or tunes with it. Hope this helps

EFI LIVE all the way:ro)

I just like how versatile EFI LIVE is. EFI in my opinion is the ultimate tuning tool. Nothing against PPE because that is the best handheld tuner in my opinion. And i like the simplicity of it but EFI Live tuning is the best especially since if theres something you dont like about the tune you can just go in and change it.

Oh and i forgot to mention you have the capability with EFI LIVE of the dsp5 switch which alllows you to switch tunes with the flick of the switch. If i had that then EFI Live would be unbeatable. But sadly they dont have it for the lbz yet.

Both. Then you can customize PPE tunes.

There you go X2 , I believe both is a good choice .

Id first get the PPE and enjoy , then get efi later and you can look at your ppe tunes and learn how to tune comparing to stock tunes .

You need to learn and know what is safe and not safe . Play around from a base platform of ppe tunes .

you can use it upto about 90hp on a stock tranny. Im not sure what power level it is but anything higher than that the Allison does not appreciate

So the transmission is the limitation, not the exhaust or intake etc...?

I dont pull anything with it (or wouldnt while in a high performance setting) i just wanted the extra horsepower in a short drag race. Would this still tear the transmission up?

Yup the trans, and yes it will tear the tranny up if its more that a 90hp tune:rockit:

So what would have to be done to the tyranny to support that programmer on full power?

425+HP and 620+ Torque

So even a programmer with 120+ hp would be too much for stock, that sucks, i figured a HD tranny wouldnt be bothered by the power :(

I run mine on level 3 (120hp?) and level 4(150hp?) with no problems. I just lock it out of overdrive and go. The tranny will take a little more than 90 hp, but you have to let it learn to cope. I am sure that it is shortening the life of my tranny, but I have not limped it.

on edit: my tunes are based on my ppe hot 2+ e.t.

I would not run it over level 3. I ran mine on level 4 and in 4 days after letting it learn for 2 days there went 4th gear and time for a rebuild!!!!! 90 hp if you want to keep that stocker in there!!!!

Can someone post a link to an article or something telling how to upgrade, or what to replace the stock tranny with, to support the PPE on full power? (425 hp)

Thanks

You will probablly want to replace or have the money to do engine upgrades(pistons, rods) as well as have dual fuelers to run that tune. Trans I would go with a Sun Coast V or a ATS extreme, they are in the vendor area with links to their sites.

To support the PPE reliably, I'd go for stage 4 transmission....which costs about $4400 out the door.
