Did chevy make a turbocharged 6.2L backed by a 700r4 trans? If so, what did they come in?

Thanks, David

no, GM never produced a turbo charged 6.2

Gm never released a turbocharged version of the 6.2L engine as far back as I can remember. The 6.5 was the first with a turbo.

the banks turbo was offered as a dealer installed option in the last few years of the 6.2. the tranny then woulda been the 4l60e, which was the electronic 700r.

during the last year or two, you could get a factory installed banks turbo from GM

The manufacturer never equipped the 6.2 with a turbo, only as a dealer installed after market item. It wouldn't have been any different from the dealer than if you had bought the banks kit somewhere else and had it installed at your favorite independant repair shop.

Wow, hard to believe that a burb with an auto is that much slower than a pickup. I was curious after watching that so I check'd my avatar. It made 0-60 in 12 seconds without a turbo.

Try an auto and no turbo. Merging on the highway becomes a science in gap analysis. Passing? Fugeddaboudit

I'm hoping that it will be OK on my C10. I think it's quite a bit lighter.

I don't understand. my 92 2500 is heavy as can be, but it's super quick off the line and will pull until I am afraid of tickets.... no turbo. stock 6.2...
I will see what it pulls like with a trailer and a load on it, but stock with a good amount of stuff in the bed, it is very quick and powerful.

My 85 burb with turbo just did a 13 sec 0-60, but I am also at 5000 ft. Dont know if that makes a difference.

Well, I usually have 4 or 5 of the family members with me plus one or two dogs and gear.

It is pretty quick off the line, I think it surprises some people. 0-60 is definitely at least close to 20 seconds. If I lose momentum on the highway, forget it. Takes forever to get back to 60 without beating the piss out of it.

We're basically at sea level here.

Hmmm. Glad I ditched my auto... My 3/4 ton will break the tires lose hitting second, and will smoke them all day long in first with 500 lbs in the bed. Stuff it would never do with that stupid 700R4. I've never run a 0-60 on it though... Running empty it's not fast, but it ain't slow either.

Of course, I have a five speed too, so it might even be a little quicker than that 4 speed... ;) Just kidding around of course...

Are you using the 700R4? Do you have any pics?

I'm taking pics as I go along and posting them in my garage. When I'm done, I'm going to compile a thread to document the process.

GM offered factory Banks turbo in 1990/1991 6.2 powered trucks. Banks set up installation centers adjacent to GM MFR plants. The unit was considered as " factory equipped" thus warranty was honored at the Gm dealers that sold trucks. I was an ATS dealer at the time & was tuning my ATS installations on a chassis dyno & installing 3in. exhaust. I converted "several" Banks equipped to ATS . I sold & installed the used Banks with dyno tuning & 3in.exhaust. The ATS units were more power to the wheels at the time. The factory 90's turbo Ford & GM trucks took the turbo business away within a couple of years.
