Fired the old girl up today on my way into work and as I began pulling out of my driveway I had one hell of a time turning her??? I thought OK let me roll her back into the drive for a bit and the brakes were gone as well. I'm gonna make an assumption that the pump is universal for both tasks. Is this a problem on these trucks? I only have 41K on the odometer? The first thing I did was dump the tune and upload the stock tune on my Predator but I did'nt think it would help and it didn't. There is no fluid on the ground and everything else appears to be OK. Everything was fine the night before and it has not been hinting at any problems. I'm seriously bummed. How much is this gonna cost me??? :help:

Go buy yourself a power steering pump with a lifetime warranty from CarQuest, etc. You may have an open valve on your pump caused by something broken off in the sytem, but I would just replace the pump. I have a Wix filter on the return line from the hydo-boost unit (for the brakes) to filter out any problem items.

PS Buy a pump that has the reservoir tank and valves....It makes it a bit more PITA of a job putting the old pump reservoir/valves onto the new pump......I heard from a little birdie keep your reciept.....GM will eventually recall most of the HD's pumps....They will install a new pump and reimburse you for the one you are going to buy(hench keep the receipt)
I bought a drop in GM pump all set to go minus the pulley for 90 bucks....Gonna need a PS pulley puller kit too.

We had this problem on a 6.0 2500hd 2000 model. It cost about 800.00 for new pump, parts and labor at dealership in nw arkansas. Hope they recall because I kept the receipt.

My 6.0 Was the first truck to have the pump go like you Scott, I personally thought GM already recalled the 99 and 00' years. 800.00 is pretty pricey It took me about 3 hrs start to finish in my Dmax, And the 6.0 was alot easier to put in....(alot more room etc)

I just got my recall letter today on the hydro-boost unit. Could it be related to this? The last line in my recall letter says 'The loss of fluid would cause increased steering and braking effort.'
Just thinking out loud. Maybe the recall will fix it?:o:

The recall is for a different problem. A valve sticks in the brake booster, which can cause the accumulator to blow off the unit. When this happens, all the fluid empties from the steering and you have high effort for both. The problem of losing assist on both without the accum blowout seems to be steering pump shaft breakage, from what I have read on the forum.

I have a 03 D/A 3500 Chevy truck with 51000 miles and it did it for about 2 minutes. I pumped the pedal real hard and it went away.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Never happened again so I thought it was a relief valve.
Never lost any oil.
