Is there a potential problem if you tow at level 3? I was told that I should only tow in level 1.

Hypertech claims tow safe in all 3 levels. To me level 2 is weak, and level 3 has nasty timing rattle. You'll have to judge for yourself. Neither level felt particularly overpowering.

Pending on the poundage your towing 3 is ok. I've towed 3500 lbs. on stage 3 no problems. I also did hear not to tow in stage 3 with an accessive weight. I'll be heading down to Gordons Well in a few weeks towing about 9500 lbs.+. I'll be in stage 2. This will be my first major trip since I purchased 05 lly a month ago. Approximate one-way trip 650 miles.

My 5er is 10k lbs. Should I play it safe and use level 1.

I tow a 10K trailer on Level 2. My EGT's never go above 1100F. Plenty of power to pull the hills going east or west on the 8 hwy. (San Diego to Imperial Sand Dunes) Plus I'm on 37 inch tires with no gear change.

Do you think the rattle hurts anything? I have noticed that on mine. seems worse when you roll into the throttle right before and right after a downshift.

Stock exhaust. No fingersticks or EGR plate. I do agree with Kennedy about the power levels, however I keep my truck on Level 2. I think it puts me a tad bit above stock ponies, due to the increased tire size. I'm gonna tow my boat this weekend to the river, think I try level 3.

Thanks. I would be interested in your results. I am towing this weekend and I will play it safe and start out in level 2.

I doubt it hurts anything, but it's bad enough that I'd deem it unacceptable.

We've grown so accustomed to quite, smooth running efficient operation that there's no reason to settle for less...

I see you're not a big fan of the Hypertech. What would you suggest over the Hypertech? I read all of these threads and it seems everyone points to the Predator or the Edge. Do you know if the Predator is smoother (no timing rattle) than the Htech?

Just got back from the weekend trip. I am pleased with my results and my replacement truck. No signs of overheating, although outdoor temps were not excessive. I am averaging over 18 mpg on the highway, and nearly 14 city. While towing my 10k 5er, I am getting 12.8 mpg, with plently of power to spare.:ro) ):h

I towed my boat to the river and back on Level 3, my EGT's never went over 1150F. Now if I go off of my onboard computer, it says that I was doing about 13 MPG. That was towing approximately 4500 lbs. Level 3 kicks ass.

I just returned from New Orleans. We brought back 3 aluminum duck boats on a flat bed trailer. Towed in level 2 all the back, plenty of power (the whole towing pachage only weighed about 4500lbs), but my MPG's sucked! I do have a brand new truck though (it turned 3300 miles when I pulled back into my driveway!), but the best I got was a hand calc. 9.75 mpg. I was doing 70+ most of the way. Also, the new green keys made for a VERY bumpy ride for the wives in the back seat.:o:
