The latest research shows that #2 diesel is a suitable engine lubricant. So therefore Gm should remove all engine oil from the GM Duramax. They need to then tap into the existing fuel line right before the filter. They need to run a line to the oil pan. They need to tap back into the existing fuel line and head back to the fuel tank.
The end result would be an oil pan that is continously full of fresh premium#2 engine lubricant. The injectors would constantly be sucking fuel from the pan, this would always insure clean fresh engine lubricant in the pan. The oil pan would also act as extra fuel storage. Also if an injector is cracked it will go unnoticed. It will just dump diesel right back to where it came from. It is a win/ win situation.
With #2 diesel being such an excelent lubricant, I am suprised engineers have never thought of this before? Seems like the current system is outdated and not working to it's full potential.
I say byby 15/40 hello #2.

The only problem is you'd have to change fuel filters every 100 miles

Where did you find information about #2 diesel fuel being a "suitable engine lubricant" ?

Thats what GM says when you bring in your Duramax with a faulty injector, and a crankcase full of diesel/oil.........
After this, they really cannot afford to be too picky about oil and warranty issues.
I see we have an early check-in for April Fools Day.

You guys are being a little too worried about getting diesel in your oil. A quart or two isnt gonna hurt anything. In the farther north regions they purposely add a couple quarts of diesel to oil to thin it out. If it warms up, they dont change it out, they just keep runnin it. Heck before these good modern oils, most manufacturers would recommend up to a 25% mix of diesel or kero in the crankcase to help things along.

I'm stickin' with the GM recommendations. If the damn thing blows itself out thru the crankcase I don't want any BS about voiding the warranty.

BRONCO if you believe that why don't you do the mod. and tell us about the resiuts.I can see a new engine in your future if you do it.

Do you think GM would void my warranty if I used #2 instead of 15/40?

Been there, done that. Lost 2 injectors on my 02 in Guadelajara, Mexico and was pumping my crankcase full of diesel and blowing it out the tail end. Drove it home 3500 miles, changing filter once. At first, I changed the oil every couple of hundred miles, but got tired of it and expensive, so said screw it, and drove it over 1500 miles on diesel only with about 20 lbs oil pressure. No damage, no metal in pan, never got above normal temp (I was loaded with stone - weighed about 14,000 lbs), and engine with new injectors never used oil. With new injectors and oil, oil pressure went right back to 60+ lbs. Thank you Dr. Izuzu!

There was somebody on the vegetable oil forums that was going to use veggie as engine lubricant and have it plumbed into the fuel system. Of course it was an old worn-out motor. I don't know if he ever ended up doing it or not.

I guess if you use diesel as a lubricating oil there would be no more worries of cylinder wash:eek:
