: 94 gmc won't start
skull246 09-13-2008, 08:08 PM it a 94 gmc 6.5 turbo stock just replaced sending unit in tank yesterday today when l start it sputtered for a second then was fine a goofball who was standing their when l had the hood up turn my bleeder screw and it shut down now l can't get ti to start what do l do beside giving that guy a smack for touching my truck
skull246 09-13-2008, 08:19 PM any idea anyone
Jodean 09-13-2008, 08:28 PM did you ever bleed the air out of the system yet??
do that at the filter with the electric lift pump running....not sure how to make that pump run as im more of a 6.2 guy
either way bleed both the filter and the t valve once you get your pump pushing fuel.
skull246 09-13-2008, 08:35 PM it was running till buddie turned my bleeder screw and it shut down now it won't restart
Gmiller 09-13-2008, 08:42 PM Do you have a new PMD, or OPS, without a working PMD or OPS the 6.5 will have a hard time starting because the inline fuel pump under the drivers door behind the frame will not be working. Also my truck has a failing starter which sometimes makes my truck not start untill i charge the system, it just cranks slower and dosen't fire. Look into that.

skull246 09-13-2008, 08:56 PM it was running and some one turn my bleeder screw open and the truck stalled and now l can't get it to restart , when l put the sending unit in the tank we had to pressurerise the tank to get fuel to start but now l am at home and can't do that it was running fine except for a small sputter when l first started it then when he opened my bleeder screw it shut down and now it won't start
skull246 09-13-2008, 09:51 PM if the t screw lets air out why did the truck stall when he opened it ?
JMJNet 09-13-2008, 10:07 PM LP and/or OPS? not working
94K30 09-13-2008, 10:15 PM LP and/or OPS? not working
Sure sounds like it's not working......
skull246 09-13-2008, 10:21 PM l know OPS is oil pressure switch wich is on fram rail on drivers side right but what is LP and where is it
94K30 09-13-2008, 10:34 PM skull, PM sent......
ghitch75 09-13-2008, 10:37 PM l know OPS is oil pressure switch wich is on fram rail on drivers side right but what is LP and where is it
the thing on the frame rail is the LP ...OPS is at the back of the engine..
1 of the 2 are not workin' or both..
skull246 09-13-2008, 10:43 PM does any one have pic what l am looking for so l can just change both that way l don't have to think about wich is bad
ghitch75 09-13-2008, 10:50 PM here is the LP and OPS...
skull246 09-13-2008, 10:54 PM the first pic is located on motor and second pic on frame rail?
ghitch75 09-13-2008, 10:55 PM other way around..
skull246 09-13-2008, 10:57 PM this is my first diesel l miss gas motor but l will learn what l am doing thanks to you guys
skull246 09-13-2008, 10:59 PM so the first pic will run with key on and the second l have to bridge to get to work?
ghitch75 09-13-2008, 11:03 PM the LP kicks in when cranking then the OPS take over when the engine starts...oil pressure keeps the LP on..
skull246 09-13-2008, 11:06 PM do you know roughly what they cost for OPS and LP
ghitch75 09-13-2008, 11:13 PM about 90 buc's for the LP and 30 for the OPS....now when you buy the LP get on for a 1993 6.5...they are a HD LP....
Jodean 09-13-2008, 11:19 PM make sure you LP isnt dead first though....its just a 12v pump you can even jump it if needed.....
i think i just bought a OPS for $12 or something....
skull246 09-13-2008, 11:20 PM why what is the difference
94K30 09-13-2008, 11:24 PM why what is the difference
I think you are refering to the use of a 93 pump instead of a 94?
The 93 has better pressure/flow because it was for a mechanical injection pump......
skull246 09-13-2008, 11:31 PM same hook up just better
Flinthunter 09-13-2008, 11:41 PM You can pull the bleeder screw of the filter and fill it up and try to start it....my LP went out once and i used a cone paper cup and clipped the tip off and filled it up and it started just fine. I drove it 7 miles back to town and I think the next day till I could get a pump... no telling how long the pump wasn't working.
94K30 09-13-2008, 11:45 PM same hook up just better
Yes.... same size/fitting/plug
skull246 09-13-2008, 11:46 PM thanks because l think mine has been gone for a while too because some l wouls start it whae it sat for a couple hours it would start then stall and then it would take a bit to start
HamOP 09-14-2008, 01:49 AM Lift Pump - Mounted to the frame about under the driver's seat. Looks like a fuel filter with wires.
DieselCash 09-14-2008, 07:12 AM Go to this post (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=256937) and read it will explain how to get the LP running easier.
skull246 09-14-2008, 09:11 AM went out this morning and dump fuel down filter and it fired up so moday l wil get a LP and to be safe a OPS
thanks again guys
Joe
Gmiller 09-14-2008, 02:16 PM Do you have a new Pump Mounted Driver (PMD) If its old and bad your truck will hesitate, stall and sometimes just shut-off. Better check that out.

tookielee 09-14-2008, 07:06 PM LP is lift pump, it pulls fuel from the tank and pushes it to the
inj pump. It's on the inside of the frame rail, around the drivers door,
looks like an inline fuel filter.
If this pump is working, and there are no leaks in the lines between the
tank and LP, no way should you have to pressurize the tank to get fuel
to flow
skull246 09-14-2008, 11:47 PM that what l thought but l have to wait till october before l go to the states to replace it they want 153.oo plus taxs for one here!
matuva 09-15-2008, 12:44 AM ---they want 153.oo plus taxs for one here!
Woha! did you have a look at rockauto.com. 1993 K3500 section---
skull246 09-15-2008, 10:29 AM after shipping still to much l would save 30 bucks but l can save more if l wait l can still drive it for now!
Schwind 09-15-2008, 12:44 PM The IP was not made to suck the fuel from the tank. It was made to pump the fuel to the injectors. The longer you have the IP sucking fuel up to it, the less life IP will have remaining. The LP was install to extend the life of the IP.

Happens to my dad's suburban. He did not realize the OPS was broken, hence LP not pumping. The IP failed.
Sk, if you want to wait, make sure you don't drive it.
tookielee 09-15-2008, 05:46 PM If you think the LP is high, wait until you burn up the IP
