Turfmower 03-10-2005, 09:58 AM I have a Toro Z. Toro and Exmark are the same machine except for the deck. They are the best mower on the market. 2 year zero problems. 80 % of people here run them. Get it you won't be disapionted.
GrassHopperLandscaping 03-10-2005, 12:26 PM Turfmower where are you located and are you using a diesel or gas. I currently run a 737 ztrak JD gas and only have had clutch problems , covered under warranty. Switching all to exmark but have to keep JD , never get enough in trade so I'll run it until it dies.
duramaxdiesel 03-10-2005, 03:32 PM I'd love to get a diesel on my Toro machines.

Unless that is something new, I think you meant to say a Lazer Z XP.
Nice unit.
Slightly underpowered with the 72" deck in THICK turf though. REAL nice with the 60" deck. Wish they would utilize Diahatsu's more powerful 31hp Turbo Diesel for the 72" deck units. Would really stop it from bogging as much.
They are heavy though. No skimming over wet areas, they'll just sink.
I'm an Exmark man through and through. To tell you the truth, I've been in "winter" mode lately, and I don't even know what else is out there to compare with. SCAG's diesel is nice, and they finally got their decks to cut nice.
Good Luck.
duramaximizer 03-10-2005, 05:37 PM we love or ZD21 kubota diesel 60inch pro deck. I love the tractor everything it has it all. Hydrolic lift to the jackable frontend for service. It is the very best IMO . Atleast check it out. I doubt you find a better design.

Turfmower 03-10-2005, 05:39 PM I'm in NJ. I have a gas unit. 1500+ hours in 2 years. It still running the original belts The only thing I have change are the front tires, oil, and fiters.
dieselfumes57 03-22-2005, 02:48 PM dont know about that one but i have a kubota zd28 with a 72in pro deck and it cuts great
HDINNC 03-22-2005, 04:34 PM I sat on TORO'S new Diesel last week. Cranked it up and it sounds sweet! The only problem I as a landscaper have with the unit is price. It is also too heavy for wet grass. I can buy a gas ZTRAC and a Walkbehind for the price of that unit. $11,000.00 and change here in Raleigh!
duramaxdiesel 03-22-2005, 06:55 PM $11000.00!!! Man, I'd have to cut a different kind of grass to afford that.

The only problem I as a landscaper have with the unit is price. $11,000.00 and change here in Raleigh! Is this a NEW Toro Diesel Z your speaking of? Because their 27hp Z590-D has been around for quite a few years. Never seen them as cheap as $11,000 though. They list for $15K and you could get one for mid 12's at the right time of the year.
On Edit: Seems that this model TORO is new. The Exmark equivilent has been around. I thought the older TORO Z's had the diesel. Never knew TORO didn't make one all along....Not many TORO dealers around my area.
HDINNC 03-23-2005, 10:37 AM Lawnboy,
The is the first TORO ZTurn Diesel I have seen and I have been in the business for about 4 years. The price is what the salesman quoted off his head I didn't ask him to look it up. It may be more.
Lawnboy 03-23-2005, 10:49 AM Prior to TORO's newer Z-500 series (new 7 gauge deck) they had the same ZTR's as Exmark. The only difference was that TORO used the SFS deck.
IIRC the 27hp XP/TORO Diahatsu diesel was introduced in the 2001 M/Y.
While things in the Carolina's tend to cost less, $11K is pretty cheap for a new unit. Used maybe.

27hp XP/TORO Diahatsu diesel w/ 60" cut.
Just got off the phone with my dealer and the price for that unit is $11,199.00. Including tax out the door is $11,982.83. How's that for service?
That price does not include my finders fee
Lawnboy 03-23-2005, 02:35 PM Guess that shows you just how much demographics has a say in the price of things...
GrassHopperLandscaping 03-23-2005, 02:42 PM HDINNC that price is great compared to Canada, my price is 15000 plus 15% tax in Ontario. This is for the exmark 27 hp (hp=horsepower for Lawnboy) diesel 60" deck with mulchkit.

Yeah but, still that is a lot of money for a ZTURN mower around here anyway! However when I cranked it up I wanted it!!!:help:
Turfmower 03-26-2005, 02:07 PM I just bought a new 27 HP with 60" deck for $7850. that includes 6% NJ sales tax. A $4132.00 diffence gas and diesel. If I take out $1600 for a replacement engine. I still have $ 2532.00. I use that to but $2.30 /gallon gasoline gives me 1100 gallons of gasoline. I burn about 7 gallon a day. So I will have a spare engine Plus 157 days worth of free fuel in just the cost differnce between diesel and gas. Buying the diesel unit dont make sence.
Lawnboy 03-26-2005, 02:35 PM The entire mower will wear out before the diesel engine reaches 1/2 it's life expectancy.
I have 1300 some hours on my Lazer and everything is loose and worn. I'll likely sell it next season and still get $4500 for it used.
HDINNC 03-26-2005, 07:07 PM The entire mower will wear out before the diesel engine reaches 1/2 it's life expectancy.
That's what I was thinking but, it sure sounded sweet!
Corsair 03-26-2005, 11:56 PM Has anyone checked out the Ferris line of mowers they offer cat diesel engines in two of thier models. The 4500 (http://www.ferrisindustries.com/m_4500z.php) sells for $12500 and the 5000 (http://www.ferrisindustries.com/mz_is5000z.php)sells for $14000
HDINNC 03-27-2005, 11:40 PM Ferris line of mowers are not common here in NC. Mostly TORO, EXMARK,HUSTLER and a few JOHN DEER.
Corsair 03-28-2005, 11:40 AM How's Gravely doin in NC nowadays?
GrassHopperLandscaping 03-28-2005, 12:37 PM Turfmower
The 27 hp gas has different specs on the frame, pumps, tires, etc not comparing apples to apples.

Haven't seen any in my neck of the woods yet. I do see commercials on TV locally so it's just a matter of time.
Turfmower 03-29-2005, 04:12 PM If any one looking for the Diesel toro with 60 inch deck the dealer I use here in Jersey has a new one for 11,500. with tax should be right around 12,000.

I know that but a diesel isn't going to cut grass that much faster than a gas the mower decks bing the same size.
Corsair 03-29-2005, 04:53 PM Turfmower I have to disagree with you on the diesel performance over a gas engine. The added torque of the diesel allows it to mow faster in my experience. The people I know who have both tend to leave their gas mowers on the trailers and run their diesels. On a normal lawn you are correct, but heavy mowing (pipeline rightaways and some public properties really slow the gas engines down.
duramaximizer 03-29-2005, 09:40 PM I agree in heavy mowing and wet mowing you can't keep on our neighbors grasshopper i can mow circles around him and i use about 8 gal for 15 hours .....that is 5 mowings 2 for us plus 3 for our grandma (combined). he would be lucky to get 2 or maybe 3 mowings for that 8 gal or about 5 hours out of it if you are lucky. not including the price difference. i also can mow a lot faster and save time especially on steep grades with the kubota, you have full control and don't slide out of control and i can mow road ditches with ease that he can't even come close to staying on. i think our ZD21 was worth all 9500. our 7 guage deck will last forever not including the shaft drive and twin drive deck belts, all of the comfort features it has. it is by far the best mower unless i was to try one of the ferris mowers with IRS. i am still not sure that it would ride better than ours.

If you wait till the lawns get that high you will have a lot of pissed off customers. Tall lawns take longer to cut then you have to clean up the cliping pay for disposal and extra labor you will lose a lot of money cutting lawns that way. I can mower as much grass with my gas mowers as my old diesel mowers. The mower wore out before out before the the diesel engine so paying all the extra money isnt worth it.
AndrewFessler 05-12-2005, 11:07 PM I have a Grasshopper 721d with a 60" deck and I love it. I only use it to own my own property mostly, and I do mow a few others on the side. Thats only about 8 acres a week for me. Nothing like what you professionals do.
I mow running full speed (8 Mph) with or without the grass catcher running. I rarely have a problem with bogging the diesel down. Only happens if the blades are dull and I am going through thick wet grass.
I bought my GrassHopper used with 500 hours on it, put 300 hours on it in the past 4-5 years and have only had to do minor repairs. (Less than $300).
So, I love my diesel and how it performs. Don't know that I would buy a new one at $15k though.
MaxRock 05-26-2005, 01:17 PM Anybody have any price information on the Kubota ZD18F?
Thanks,
