okay... so i agreed to purchase a truck. i bought it from a wholesaler in ft worth, and i need to drive it first thing to minnesota for a 1,000 mile maiden voyage. the question i have.... is if you were to have bought this truck from a wholesaler, what would be the first things to take care of or to inspect before handing over cash?

for instance... oil change & fuel filter.

it is a '02 Duramax crewcab short bed with 90k miles. Appears to have had a meticulous owner, and no evidence that it was doing heavy hauling with goose neck or 5th wheel.

and by the way... thanks for answering some questions and vin checks!

thanks, scott.

I would change the fuel filter for a trip, since you dont know the history. Changing oil isnt a bad idea, maybe the trans fluid and the spin on filter.

Ditto.
All Filters and fluids. INCLUDING the differentials

Change coolant as well. And check all hoses for wear and tear, replace serpentine belt

Really if you had the option, I would take it to a shop, have it gone over. The diff fluid is a really good idea, that would be a nice thing to realize there wasnt any in there after about 100 miles.

Won't have time to do this before you plunk down your money, but it would be worth your time to get an oil analysis done to confirm that there is no serious wear, water/contaminants, or other issues inside the engine.
