arbasscrap 03-09-2005, 07:47 AM Has anyone else had any problems with their power steering pump or hydro assist? My '02 GMC is giving me fits in the mornings when I first crank it up, sometimes I have no power steering and no brakes. I have already had the power steering pump replaced, but it still does it periodically. Thanks for any info and I am glad to have found this site!! :) marcdeluca 03-09-2005, 09:51 AM Did changing the pump change the frequency of occurance of the problem? My '91 has trouble with the power steering not working when first started. I think it is a problem with stiff sealing rings in the power assist, and possibly you have trouble with seals in the brake booster as well. On mine, once you get it to start working, it works fine the rest of the day. My '94 'burb has 100K more miles than my '91, and it never does it. arbasscrap 03-09-2005, 10:42 AM It's weird, runs fine all day and then park it over night and the next morning it may do it, it may not. Kind of aggravating!!:( drhutch 03-09-2005, 10:53 AM My 89 gasser had that problem. Added a bottle of Lucas power steering additive and problem solved. Fixed a friends caddy with the stuff also. It may be snake oil but it's good snake oil IMHO. Mitchagain 03-09-2005, 01:56 PM Yep, happened to me at about 45k. Low pressure on the output. GM replaced it. Been good since. | ||
