There is no aftermarket chip sitting in/on this engine.
I've had it to the dealership and they flashed it (I was told replaced the computer unit but the record doesn't reflect that).
When they were done, it ran like a dream but has since reverted to it's old behavior (very rough idle, surge at startup, and inconsistant power & smoke).
I decided to see what might be the issue by buying a computer software diagnostics unit to place on my laptop and checking via the port in the cab.
When I started up and turned on the monitor, what I saw was spiking in a number of areas: engine temp, manfold pressure, etc. Is this a computer unit needing to be replaced? Would a simple reflash fix it? How serious does the issue sound?
Should I show the graphs to the dealership or just tell them it is running rough? Does my placing the monitor on the unit put me at risk (the monitor I have is capable of resetting the Service Engine light, but I haven't done that)?
Lots of questions.
Thank you!
RJ
