Ok, my brother in law just decided he is going to move to Arizona. He is leaving me his 22 foot Sea Ray that is in need of an engine. It originally had a 305 in it... and I was thinking of putting a 350 in it. Talking with my brother tonight, he jokingly said that he still has a running 6.2... we should put that in!!!

Since both boat and engine are both free... I dont have much to lose. Anyone have any ideas suggestions, warnings or other advice? I am already aware that I have a few challenges, such as weight, rpm and noise. what else might i be missing? sounds like a 'fun' project. Sure would be intereseting to say the least.... :grd:

some of who I've spoke to say that the 6.2 is very similar to the 305 in its horsepower rating. the thing is, your gettin better torque out of the deal. if cooling and getting the bugs worked out isn't a problem, I'd say go nuts. this may end up being a better idea due to the fact that the thing should be better on fuel and with the addition of a turbo in the long run, you would have a sweat water cruizer. I'd do it if I were you. does the pump hook up to the auto flywheel? thats the only question I'd have. just keep in mind that the 6.2's flywheel is weighted. good luck!

I was really gung ho on the idea until I realized the value of said boat with the 305 in it. and the wife says sell sell sell.... somehow I dont think it will sell with the 6.2 in it... :-/

The 6.2 is a lot heavier and larger than a 305. You can't turn high RPM's with the 6.2 either. 6.2's were put in large boats that had large props that turned at lower RPM's!!! I think you have a mis-match in all regards for such a small boat.

well if you decide to sell the boat give me a PM because I might just want it. and the 6.2 is a great idea, put it in the boat and i'll buy it
