Just installed my Nicktane filter kit on my new 05 GMC Serria D/A Crew Cab Short Box. I ordered this truck in January. Installation mileage 3, thats right just 3 miles on her. I live about a mile away from my dealership, and the first thing I did was install the kit. I asked my salesman not to fill my tank with diesel just in case I needed to drop the fuel tank. No need to drop it, fittings easily gotten to. But first before starting assembly on truck attach filter head to mounting bracket, I had to drill holes out a little bit on filter head so bolts would line up on bracket. Mounted bracket to truck as per instuctions. Rasied rear wheels off of ground by about 3" so my chubby body would slide under truck frame. Removed drive shaft from truck, gained good access to top of fuel tank. Did not have to bend heat shield, but did loosen fuel cooler and let hang down. Added new quick disconnect fittings as per instructions and cut hose to lenght. Pre filled new cat fuel filter and installed on Nick's head. Now tried to purge air from under hood filter, just got clear diesel fuel from OEM filter. Had a large zip lock baggy under fuel filter to catch drippings and just clear fuel comes out of vent screw (no tint in factory diesel fuel). Said the heck with it. Tightened vent screw and fired up Duramax and let her run about 15 minutes and took her to gas statione and filled her up.
Great product very well made and all fittings, clamps, bolts(stainless) top notch, went together actually very well.
Oh, turned slip in to my dealer and got reimbursed for the fuel purchased.

When I installed mine, I had to drop the tank about 4-5" because there just was'nt enought access to the top of the tank, plus I could'nt see what the hell I was doing. I did install the unit at the same time I installed a new exhaust so there were no pipes and exhaust in the way. I could sit up under the truck to work on it.

In an older thread, several had mentioned an air leak at the filter seal area and was fixed by installing an "O" ring around the base of the filter head screw on fitting. I did this and have not had a problem.

I did not use an additional "O" ring on my filter install, but did use a honning stone to smooth out the filter gasket sealing surface. It did have a couple of dings either from shipping or during when they manufactered the filter head. I have the newer version of the Nicktane setup. I never had any air leakage problem. Everything went very smooth.

Time to install I think a few hours going really slow and re-reading the instructions as I went. I had the bracket and the head installed the night before I removed any lines and completed the install.

Kit is installed on an 05 D/A Crew Cab Short Box
