I've read about several people here on the Place using the Plow package hole for other electronics. What's the standard size hole that you need to drill. I intend on using the factory grommet, I'm just now sure how large to drill the hole for it.
Thanks for any help.

Ok, I need some help with remedial drilling mechanics.
The last time I tried to drill with a hole saw into sheet metal, it made a mess with the paint, the saw only cut about 1/4 of the hole circumference, while putting a circular indentation for the rest of the circumference. I was putting quite a bit of force behind the drill.
In the end, I had to use a flat head screwdriver and hammer to punch the rest of the hole out along the circular indentation. It did the job, but the finished product was jagged and rather ugly.
Please tell me there's a better, cleaner, safer, more efficient way of doing this.
thanks,
J

There is no "spare" plow prep hole.
Ever since "drive by wire" the hole and grommet once used for the plow prep hole are occupied by other wires.
Yet, GM still seems content to advertise this hole as if you can actually use it.
I drilled my access hole through where the big ? is in this picture.
On the inside under the dash, there is a plastic knock out in this location, and if you look close, there is a center punched dimple in the sheet metal.
A hole saw...I really forget the exact size is what I used. I never had problems with using hole saws. Just gotta take it slow.

Here's the view from your feet under the dash.
