I'm sure some of you are using oil filter magnets. I was just wondering what kind everyone recommends?

I'd sure like to know as well. I have a fumoto so I don't have a magnet on the oil drain plug.

Looks like the Filtermag magnets Kennedy has are the most common.

I can see how this would be a benefit for the oil filter. I'll probably get one.

The allison spinon already has a magnet so I'm covered there.

Not sure how much benefit you'd get from putting one on the fuel filter.

I use Filtermag magnets on my oil, fuel and tranny filter. With the larger magnet area,(RA Series) I was amazed at how powerful they actually were. You need to use a jack screw to remove it from the filter. Some may say it's overkill, the metal particles will be trapped by the filter anyways, but I look at it this way, how much metal does it take to destroy an injector if a microscopic shard slips through the filter? I don't know the answer to this and don't want to find out either.

Cut open any old hard disk. Real strong magnets in there. I just slap a couple on the outside of the filter.

TC DMAX,

I see you've go the I've got the Racor 660 pre oem. I've got the Nicktane. With the filtering your getting from the pre-oem and the oem do you think you need it for the fuel? I would think the same stuff the magnet would grab would be caught by the filters anyway if there was no magnet. Of course, if it is stuck to the wall of the filter rather than in the filter element that would help to extend the filter life. Also, which do you have it on, oem or pre-oem.

I was just gonna comment on the trans filter mag, You'd be suprisedhow much stuff it collects the the inferior OEM mag misses. They are pricey, but its cheap insurance and worth it when you cut open a filter and see what it collected.

TC DMAX,

I would think the same stuff the magnet would grab would be caught by the filters anyway if there was no magnet. Of course, if it is stuck to the wall of the filter rather than in the filter element that would help to extend the filter life. Also, which do you have it on, oem or pre-oem. I have mine installed on the pre filter (Racor), and consider it another line of defense to help keep things as clean as possible. I realize the filter media will probably trap most of the metal fragments anyway but these magnets are powerful enough to pull in material down to 2 microns. I would rather have the metal stuck to the wall of the pre filter at the start of the filtering process rather than have it possibly get to the OEM filter and then into the injectors. Here's a link with some pictures of the junk it will pull out of diesel fuel. Filter Mag (http://www.filtermag.com/fuelsys.php)
It only my opinion but the more metal you can pull out of your engine oil, transmission oil or fuel the better.

You a farmer or computer geek? That'll dictate which disk I cut open.:D :D Cut open any old hard disk. Real strong magnets in there. I just slap a couple on the outside of the filter.
