: Stock Allison Limitations?

I was wondering what the power limitations are for a stock 6-speed Allison w/ LBZ. I am getting to that point of buying a new tranny, but was wondering, until i get the new one, how much the stock can handle?

Thanks

ok nice. Im still good then. I've been running the RBP eliminator on the 80hp tune, but it dosn't have the numbers the ppe has, so im switching. But knowing how much power the PPE can deliver i have to get a new tranny, just was wondering how high i cold run the ppe on the stock ally. Thanks again.

Every truck is different. Some guys can run more and some less.

You can run it all the way up...if you dont let it make max boost.

Just gotta remember not to hammer on it, or it will slip.

Good for a verrrry smoky tune if thats what your looking for... ):h

I have my PPE set at lvl 4 and now that my trans has learned the power, its the highest level i can be on and still floor it and hold it there.

With the transgo jr(installed at 500 miles) I kept mine on level 4(225hp) setting for everything as far as towing and playing. I ran level 6 and 5 a few times even on the no-defuel setting on the hot+2e.t. and when I tore my trans apart to do my upgrades my c3's looked really good and was surprised. The big thing is I let it learn and only got on it every once in awhile. If you beat it alot it won't last. Also just because you ran a 80hp tune dosen't mean your safe. Tunning plays a big part on how the tranny shifts and could cause hot spots on your clutch packs even though the power level isn't high.

I ran my '07 with a dyno'd 480rwhp tune for about 4,000 miles before Mike L. upgraded the trans...It never limped, but C2 and C3 clutches were getting burnt...

you can run the 160 tune on ppe if you dont mash on it. ppe measures their hp at the crank, not the wheels. allisns can handel ~90-110 wrhp safely, some can handel 50wrhp, every allison is different.

not neccessarily true.
just because it isnt making full boost doesnt mean that all the low end torque added is hurting it.

Well, my trans went out on me. I have a Hypertech and had it on level 3, +65HP. They said the 1-2 gear set was all torn up. And I do not, repeat, not beat on my truck. I've never done one burnout with it. So be careful. This is gonna cost me about $5K from the dealer for a reman trans.

Can't you get a SC V for around 5k?

I don't believe it. That kind of power does not break gear sets. Talk to some of the vendors here for better options if you are going to spend that kind of money. If you buy the reman unit you are in the same boat; you cannot play.

Talked with SC. About $5,100 delivered to me and core sent back. Then another $500 for the trans shop. Plus the $200 for dealer and tow to Janis Transmissions. so about $5,800 to have a SC trans put in.

Are they that much better than stock? Like I said before, I don't beat on my truck. And I'm not a landscaper that's hauling all the time.

GM rep called dealer. They are going to replce the trans. I just have to pay labor and original diagnostic fee.

70 gsconvt........call Mike L and talk to him. He will help you out a ton! How much are you going to pay for GM labor? That money could of went into a rebuilt SC III or IV.

I've run my PPE on lvl 10 for a long time before...no problemos.

I also can believe that level of power broke anything. Im running PPE level 4 (+180hp) and not having any issues

Yeah, my PPE is on level 4 now because id rather be able to floor it then be able to chug huge amounts of smoke.

I think my truck, stock trans, is quicker in lvl 4 than it is in lvl 10.

Atleast a trans-go but that is only a band-aid. Unless you actually have it built then something will eventually give its only a matter of when

I smoke alot on level 4 and almost none at all on level 3 but what a huge difference in performance between level 3 and 4 aswell. Im quite suprised.

I used to run my truck on the predator 85 tune, and then the ppe 160 tune before my build. I never limped my tranny, but felt it wasn't holding the power quite like it should. When the builder tore my trans down he told me that all my clutches were pretty toasty. Some can get away with running higher power levels with no issues, but most won't.

I smoke none on 3.

At about 3/4 throttle I leave a good haze all the way through the RPMS and a nice cloud at take off

:o:Here's a video of where I put guys who ask for 'the most they can handle on stock trans', it shifts firm and locks up solid still .... (6 speed w/healthy defuel)

Im been running your strong LLY150 for about a month now and havent had any problems with my stock trans. I used the stock TLIQ and reduced it by about 30% in the WOT shift cells. I also put all the torque reduction to stock levels increase by about 20%.

Im going to try to defuel it in the low rpms to control smoke becuase it won't make boost at all untill its rev all the way through first. It shifts fine to me it could probably be a little faster shifting. I don't get why people always want to defuel when they could use the PCM to make the trans shift better under power.
