: "Change Engine Oil" after only 4500mi??
musclecarboy 09-05-2008, 08:46 PM The little square info center on the left of the guage cluster is telling me to change the oil after only 4500mi. I was planning on changing it next week anyways but it seems early for it to be bugging me?? I use 15w40 rotella t w/ a FRAM filter. Is there a better filter that I can use? Is this an indication of engine life? (199,500mi currently)

I've had mine be near zero at 5K miles under winter stop and go combined with towing.
Also, are you sure you the Oil life monitor was reset last time you changed oil? If your on a 5K mile cycle, and somehow it wasn't reset last time you'd be near the 10K point where it will be down to zero regardless.
KevinsDMAX 09-05-2008, 10:16 PM I don't believe that the 02's had DIC's

No it isn't the "OIL LIFE XX%" info display, its the rectangle info display that displays idiot lights, just bigger.
Check out this pic I got to give you an idea. How would I reset the light? The last pic is of a random truck I got off the internet but it shows you the type of info display.
P.S. check out my current mileage:D
musclecarboy 09-05-2008, 10:41 PM WTF??? I changed my oil and it still appears!
alvareracing 09-05-2008, 11:14 PM Is there a better filter that I can use?
yeah like any other brand but Shit Fram! They suck royally they are made out of paper towels that keeps oil from flowing, Its happen to me in customers cars, scary shit, thiught I would have to eat 2 performance motors. I use AC Delco pf2232 for $8.00 at Autozone or Advance Auto Parts. I've had good luck with K&N oil filter (the big bastard onea) they're like 2 quarts and the Amzoil guy has a good one too. But stay away from that Fram crap.
KevinsDMAX 09-06-2008, 08:26 AM muscle car,
Look through your owners manual and see how to reset your oil change interval. In my 04 it says to turn the key to on (not start) and press the gas three times to the floor and release, then my DIC changes to 100%. I also found that you can just be on the oil life % and hold the reset button on steering wheel and it will reset.
I would look in your manual under oil change and see how to reset your dummy light.

durdymax 09-06-2008, 08:33 AM In my 02 you just turn the key to on and pump the pedal to the floor three times
Like the other guys said, use the AC Delco Filter.
saratoga 09-08-2008, 09:13 AM In my 02 you just turn the key to on and pump the pedal to the floor three times
X2
The truck doesn't know you changed the oil.
wynot 09-08-2008, 01:11 PM In my 02 you just turn the key to on and pump the pedal to the floor three times
PUMP slowly. If you have done it correctly, you will have the light flash then go out. It's like 3 times within 5 secs, but if you go pump, pump, pump, it won't go out.

impalapower 09-08-2008, 08:56 PM If you are going to use Fram filters, just leave it in there and change only the oil. There are much better filters out there. Napa/Wix is one of them.

Might need to start your own thread to get some good answers or "search" ac delco/amsoil/napa are good filters. fram is noted as the worst.
