: Any help finding a shop to install Cognito leveling kit in Oklahoma City
MDaniels2104 09-05-2008, 11:15 AM Called and visited several shops an no one will install Cognito here(Oklahoma). Few shops discredited the product saying the larger UCA's will cause unusual tire wear. Another shop said this would not help me level my truck with the OEM factory tortion keys I have now. Do I need new torsion keys? I thought this kit was to prevent that. Any help would be appreciated. Sig not filled out yet, I have a 06 LBZ stock with Moto metal 951 18x9 wheels & 285/60/18. Looking to put 285/65/18 or 275/70/18 on.
dentpusha 09-05-2008, 11:17 AM the diresctions are easy to read and the install wasnt that hard imo.you might just do it your self

Nor-Cal Nick 09-05-2008, 11:53 AM Print the info of the kit off the net and find a general mechanic that does suspension repair. They will not be hard headed about the product. If DIY's are getting it done then a general mechanics can do the same.
If you buy the product from us we can help your installer with any questions he might have. We don't just sale this product we install tons of it. We are more than happy to help our customers get threw the install.:)
irish yankee 09-05-2008, 11:55 AM If I was going to little sahara this year I would stop by and put this on for ya in an hour.
I did the leveling kit,new shocks, cognito tie rods, idler arm w/supports,super steer w/weld in gusset.I left the pitman arm for the shop that did my alignment, heard that was tough.
Nor-Cal Nick 09-05-2008, 12:00 PM Here was a DIY by a member on this site, might help understand how easy it is.

MDaniels2104 09-05-2008, 12:09 PM I have been going the truck accessory shop route (4 wheel parts) more so than a mechanic. I will start trying to find a "trustworthy" mechanic, because a mechanic I am not. Actually, I did purchase the kit & shocks from Nor-Cal(per the rave reviews of the kit & Nor Cal). It seems everybody around here has not heard of that brand (Cognito) & they all keep pushing ready lift kits. It makes me think twice about the Cog leveling kit, but everybody on here says its great. I think it is just because it is new to everyone around here and also they are all out to get "theirs" as well. I have heard everything from it will cause uneven wear of tires to the ball joint/bushings will begin to squeek after 10000 miles and every time it gets wet.
irish yankee 09-05-2008, 01:30 PM I got the same response around here. The place I was going to have do it never heard of cognito. The shop owner said that was a big job, which told me big money.Which I then said to myself; you have a cresent wrench, get busy.I put a 4" lift on my 91 so I was pretty sure I could handle this.
cajun charlie would say"GET BACK,I'LL DO IT MY DAMN SELF"

Duratime 09-05-2008, 02:34 PM There is a video in the DIY section, and the instructions are available on both Cognioto's and Nor-Cal Site's. It is not a big job, and it is the same job as replacing the factory upper control arms except, you have to bolt on the ball joint. It looks real easy, the only non-standard tool that you'll need it a pickle fork, but that is pretty standard anyhow, and cheap. Good Luck
BagdHoe 09-05-2008, 03:51 PM Have you tried Merle's on Shields? Have you tried Auto Accessories on I-35 & Indian Hills Rd?
MDaniels2104 09-05-2008, 05:02 PM Yes, I have tried Merle's. Actually, they are the one's who told me they wouldn't go the route of UCA's because replacing the OEM UCA's would cause problems due to the fact the new ones are larger. They also said the best way to go is to use the ready lift-$414 installed. I haven't tried Auto accessory unlimited yet, they are farely new, but I will give them a try.

They are farely new, but have good installers. I know the guy that use to own that shop before they sold and turned to Auto Accessories. Some of the same installers there from back in the day.
What did 4 wheel parts say?
Duratime 09-05-2008, 06:39 PM I think that you should try a tire and allignment shop. The line of BS thse people are giving you is crap. This is an easy job. You don't even need to unload the t-bars. Most tire shops can replace upper control arms, since most will just suggest new one if the upper ball joint is bad. Where are you going to get the tires from? Maybe they can do it.
