My 04 Dmax has 8300 miles on it and I have been running Mobil delvac. I think I am going to change to delo next time. I have heard it is as good as there is. While shopping I noticed rotella has a synthetic oil now. Any comments on the rotella syn, delo, delvac???????????

I personally think you'd be trading down to start using Delo. While I think all these oils are excellent and you won't go wrong with any of them, I prefer the Mobil 1 and Amsoil synthetics, but that's just my opinion. Are you having any problems with the Delvac?

The new Delo 400 CI-4+ is arguably the best dino oil currently available. Rotella T synthetic has been around for awhile, but all that I have seen is the old CH-4 rated stuff. Shell has it rated CI-4+ on their website, but I haven't actually seen it in a store yet.

Not having any problems. Just cant locate delvac in one quart bottles and a duramax holds 10. Makes it easier to fill. I have been using delvac 1300. Is the CI-4+ synthetic? I change every 3000 miles. By the way, my dmax is in the shop right now with injector problems. Not a good feeling with what I read on the forum.

I use the Delo-400 and no problems here.

Just thought I would pass a little info on. When at the dealer last sat. having my steering shaft replaced some guy calls and wants to know if he changes his trans. oil to Amsoil Syn. will it void his warrenty, service guy says YES. So the guy on the phone says that Amsoil is approved by allison. Service guy says that if you use Amsoil and your tans. goes it will not be covered by warr. Has anyone heard this or is this just my dealer.

Check here for the answer. Basicaly if the dealer won't cover it Amsoil will. And then will go after the dealer.

I had the same problem - Delvac 1 is the same re-pakaged MOBIL SUV oil . Check out the specs at Molbil one same stuff. And you can buy it anywhere Walmart, Autozone etc.

I went round and round with Mobil about how hard it was to get Delvac, with only one distributor in Southern Ca. Anyway they distributor drove me down 4 cases in his own car.

So now I just use the Mobil SUV, it’s the same stuff.

I just got a 05' LLY and never onwed a D-Max before so use the Mobil 1 SUV not the standard Mobil 1. I do not know anything about the Delvac or Delo and the specs.

I also use the Mobil truck and SUV oil. Its easier to get,and cheaper by the quart. It used to have a yellow cap,now its got a silver one. The Mobil 5w40 full synthetic oil is second only to Amsoil if it is even second to that oil.I highly recommend it.In cold weather my Cummins fires faster, and the oil stays noticeably cleaner longer that the rotella did. Rotell synthetic is a blend of dino and synthetic oil,its cheaper than the Mobil, but it is not a full synthetic, and its protection in temp/pressure extremes is less than the Mobils.

John.....your truck come stock with 410's? never noticed that before.

In the winter I run schaffers supreme 7000, its a semi syn. Good oil IMO, lotsa moly and has a lower pour point than regular dino. Cheaper than full synthetics too. I actually pay for it becasue I like the lower pour point when its cold. In the summer I run rotella becasue its free.

If I wasnt running a big chip and heavily over fuled I would probably run mobil year round even though I would be paying for it.....buuuuuut.......I believe running non stock and sooting up my oil its best to change it often. So all the last longer ect goes out the window IMO and I dont get a chance to break it down before I change it. So I go for something a bit cheaper. All the oil analisis I see of mobil shows it to be an excellent oil and I am a believer in the mobil 1 atf. I wouldnt personaly run the amsoil ATF in my allison unless it was the torque drive

I have heard from many people that the suv is the same but I never really checked into it since I never planned to use it.

Now I change my oil ussually every 4k. I ussualy just look at my scanner and change when my truck says the truck has 50% oil life left so that ussualy puts it around 4 k or so

I run shaeffers x200 15w40 in the summer with my Mach 6's.I soot the oil up pretty good in the summer, but not in winter with my baby injectors.I need to change my Mobil oil,Ive got over 200 hrs of plowing alone on it+ about 3300 miles. It is still very clean,i can see the markings on the stick right thru the oil still. MyDad runs X200 yr round since he is in warm Fla for the winter. My truck came with 4.10s,I shocked a few guys in Muncie this yr running 111.18 mph in the 1/4 defueling on the governor for the last 200 ft.With plowing, and the heavy towing I do,and Dodges 2.45 : 1 1st gear, the 4.10 is the best gear for what I do.The 4.10s hurt my dyno numbers, the drag strip confirms my true HP every time.

I use Amsoil, there is no better oil AND IT WILL NOT VOID ANY WARRANTYS!

I happened to be at Costco today and noticed they had Delo 400 for IIRC $36 for a case of 6 1 gal jugs....is that a good price? I haven't studied the oils to the point of finally determining which one I will use because I have some time yet before my first oil change, but like some of the guys said, if Delo 400 is a good oil it would seem to make a degree of sense to use it and change more often. What do you think?

Delo 400 is a very good oil, and $6 per gallon is a good price, lower than WalMart.

I use synthetic 5w-40 year round for two reasons. First, for lower viscosity in sub-zero weather (easier starting), and second, no matter which way I go from my "up in the hills" location, it is downhill for the first five miles, meaning that the engine takes a long time to warm up.
