thats scary:eek:... i used the GM specific tool and it still was sketchy. I would see if you can loan one from a local GM dealer, its free as long as you return it. They might need to make a copy of your credit card as well. There is a part number for the tool floating around here, im sure someone will chime in.

the safest way is to use the unloading tool. but i have done it may times with a c-clamp.

Spend the C note for the tool

When the C clamp bounces near the boss' wifes head under load it tends to convince one to buy the tool

I'm getting ready to install a cognito lev kit on my 08 LMM, Do you really need to un-load the TB if your going to crank them up a bit? I thought I could just jack it up and then get to cranking them up. :confuzeld:

No, you dont have to unload them if you are cranking them. I think he is changing the keys out and that is why he asked about the tool. I put the Cognito UCAs and new bilsteins and HD tie rods on my truck, no unloading tool is needed. Just jack up the front and crank away, count turns to make level side to side.

zipman, this thread is posted a few below yours. I have no experience with the tool, but he clearly does and recommends doing it with the right tool.

You can also use a small bottle jack, I've done that with sucess also, If you have a few IFS trucks around its a good idea to invest in one, but if your only going to do it once or twice every so years I'd just use a 6" c-clamp or a bottle jack and blocks.
