Is anyone else having a clearance issue on the drivers side with the shock and frame? It was vibrating on the frame so I adjusted it slightly and now it has melted the plastic boot on the left rear shock. Good thing I hadn't put the Bilsteins on yet. Is anyone elses fit this close? Thanks.

yes mine is within a 1/4" from the frame. I like them but I don't know if I would do it again

I just received my cool duals yesterday and plan on having a performance shop put it in. Any suggestions or helpful hints on installation would be appreciated. The guy is going to cut the old system out. I also went with the LB7 front pipe and eliminating the CAT. Are any of you throwing codes after doing it this way? JJ :)

Jj Look In The Review Section Tony Did An Excelect Installation On The Cool Duals. Note Where To Mount The Rear Tailpipe Hangers In The Existing Holes In The Frame You Will Need To Large Wahers. Also If You Want To Remove The Stock Exhaust In 1 Piece Just Remove The Right Rear Tire And The Top Shock Bolt, And It Will Come Out In 1 Piece At Least It Does On An Lb7 Not Sure About Lly. You Could Also Save Some Money And Do Yourself Its Really Pretty Easy Of Course I've Installed One On A Dually, But I Assume Its The Same Kit.

Melted the plastic shock boot, and I am 1/4" from touching. Love the sound!!!

Been there, done that too. Had my cool duals installed by local mechanic due to ease using a lift but noticed that the drivers side pipe going over the axel was touching the frame and rattling when going over an unsmooth surface.

After looking at it closely (multiple times) realized that the section in question needed to be pushed further into the top section of the muffler. Apparently, it was not set into the muffler far enough and resulted ub the touching of the frame or shock.

We (Chevy dealer and I) loosened the hanger at the frame and the clamp on the section to the muffler and twisted/tapped w/ rubber mallet the section in question til it went further in. As a result, it added more clearence from the frame and shock allowing about 1/2" on either side btw both. Tightened all hangers/clamps and good to go. Also, in doing this, the 5" tips alligned perfectly and now looks even from the back.

Good luck. Know it is frustrating but stick to it and success will be yours.

This issue is the only one I have ever come across with the dual systems. They were designed with oem shocks in mind, which alot of us don't have. You have to adjust, adjust and adjust. But with time and effort you will succeed.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I will be loosening some clamps and doing some more readjusting tomorrow. I did look at both sides and they look the same from the rear but the side in question is further back towards the bumper than the passenger side. Thanks for the heads up ramaporunner.

I had to cut about 1" off the driver side to get it to miss everything and look like the right side.

Thanks for the tip about the driver's side . I don't want to burn up the boots on my Bilstiens.

Got them delivered last Friday and have been chomping at the bit to get them installed. Got a call from Los Lobos and went over to his place to install. He has a garage big enough for my truck to fit. Got the old exhaust system out in no time. We went to start the install after laying out all componets of the MBRP exhaust. Started getting harder when the hanger on the upper outlet pipe was hard to get on. Then the upper pipe for the driver's side was difficult to get together. Didn't drill frame but will get some 1/4 inch stock and make a couple plates for the rear hangers or get some big washers, but the problem now is the driver's tailpipe is hitting the frame. Maybe I didn't get the drivers side aligned up right. I know it is clear of the shock boot on driver's side. I remember bending the rear brake line clamp at the diff cover a little. Any suggestions would be helpful

I had to play with mine a few times to get it better. driver side is still about a 1/4" from the frame and hits once in a while.

Muffler City is going to remove my old exhaust without cutting it up and install my MBRP cool duals on Monday for $125. After reading this post I'm thinking it is money well spent! JJ :)

Sounds like a lot of BS for an expensive system! Does anyone else make a clean dual system that fits?

I wanted to go with the cool dual set up but after sending Mark Craig photos of my air spring installation, he advised that the left side would not fit. I went with the single MBRP exhaust kit, and love it.

BlackDMax/Gearhead,

I had a muffler shop to install my MBRP cool duals yesterday, glad I did. They ended up having to do some cutting, heating/adjusting hangers, etc. to get a clean install. They even welded the straight pipes from the downpipe to the passenger side tail pipe, left the driver's side tail pipe with a clamp for easy removal later. Appears to be a great install.

Definitely can hear the LLY and VVT. Sweet! Later. JJ :)

Keep in mind that any problem even the smallest get blown up pretty big on here sometimes. Changing out Exhuast is one of those things that seems so easy, but isn't always. Now when you factor in that you're putting a 4" pipe though an area of the truck that the truck was not designed to have, some troubles arise. I think one of the biggest problems with the fitting on these systems is the fact that the drives side pipe has to be two piece to be able to be shipped and easily installed. The problem comes from the resulting additional joint that works as a pivot point. The more joints you have, the harder it is to get things lined up just right, this is true with ANY piping system. I think the install is pretty easy, I've changed mine 5 or 6 times to try different systems and go back to stock to take it in the dealer. Each time I went aftermarket, everything went on easy, but it takes time to get it all lined up just right. If you think it's a PITA or you don't have the time, just take it to a good shop, hopfully they know what they're doing and can get it on like you want with no trouble. If you think this system is pricey check out the ATS duals sometime, they're only about $500 more....

BTW all the Cool Duals I've seen have fit good and were clean...well not as clean as mine, but mine aren't staight out of the box any more....

What kind of bags do you run? I have the Air Ride Super Duty bags and a Titan class V hitch and I got mine to fit fine....
