I just changed the fuel filter for the 1st time on my '04 2500HD DMax/Allison (17548 mi ... little late, but it's been running great...)

I bought the filter from the dealer for this first change, just to be sure it was the correct one. The AC Delco TP1298 I got is significantly smaller than the original (factory) filter. Same diameter, but an inch or so shallower. The fittings are all the same of course.

Just struck me as odd - I had assumed that by purchasing from the dealer I'd get the same filter as the truck came with.

there is a new filter out there. the new filters are double pleated. i don't remember if that number is the new one or the old one. i think the new one is the tP1298A, so you may have been given an old one. at any rate, there has been some mentioning of the different sizes and the filters work the same. no biggy. just enough for you to notice and drive you nuts.

The original LLY filter has been phased out. It was a bit longer, but did not fit the LB7. What has happened now is that the applications have been combined to use the LB7 can, and latest units are dual media. I have pics of the innards on my site.
