that has to be absolutly the worst diesel engine ever made by anyone, bar none. no wonder there is no reserve and a $1.00 bid on it. and to think they put them in cars too. what were they thinking?

Oh no, the 4.3 had to be the worst ever! Even more problematic and anemic than its big brother!

IF and I mean IF you got a good one the you had a good long engine. My dad ran one for 250,000 plus miles and never cracked a valve cover. Seen lots of these in cars go for ever, BUT have seen LOTS of bad ones too.

Worst diesel besides the GM ToroFlo was the Olds 260 CID V-8 diesel, produced from 1979-1980, with a whopping 90hp and 170 ft/lbs of torque. The car wouldn't even pull it's self off the car hauler much less down the highway. The gas version was also junk. No guts and they put them in full sized cars to boot. The V6 4.3 diesel was used in the smaller cars and produced more power to weight ratio and faired just slightly better.

bowtie,

I agree with you. I've seen those need head gaskets replaced every 10,000 miles or less and I've seen them go for 200,000 miles without a single thing going bad. Some were better than others, OR the bad ones were replaced early in the life of the vehicle they rested into with a good one.

Fantastic mileage, but no power. I've not whitnessed any other v-8 produce that sort of mileage

They were no race cars thats for sure but the Caddy's and olds with them ran pretty good at highway speeds, and very good on fuel.
