Im looking at 02-06 GMC 2500 HD Diesel

Whats the best year, and best engine and why?
White, Ext Cab, 2500HD, Shortbed, 4x4, Automatic is what im looking at!

No brainer, 06 LBZ. GM improved on most of the problems they had with the LB7's and LLY's and it comes with the 6 speed tranny.

Depends on what your needs are though to. Personally I would stay away from th LB7 just because of the injector issues that are prevalent. There is a 180K mile/300K km warranty on them for a reason. SOME...LLYs have a problem with overheating but not all. Mine, haven't been able to do it. The worst I have done is 10K lbs over a 8% grade over about thirteen miles. True the LLYs don't have the six speed but depending on what you do with your LBZ, you'll end up putting a Suncoast kit in it anways. Just build up your LLY and put the 6 speed kit when you do the build. Odds are you can probably pick up an LLY cheaper than you can get the LBZ and use whats left in your budget for go-fast goodies.

There's a different truck for each person on each day...depending on what you want to do with it and what you can manage.

I would look at the 2006, increased preformance, and the 6 speed transmission is a plus also.
