I have an 02 Duramax and the fuel gauge reads all over the place from full to empty half tank anyone else have this dealership says I need sending unit they want $1000 for it. Somebody told me it is just the chip in the unit that needs replacing. Anybody have this happen to them?

mine is doing the same thing it showes the low fuel light when its full. you can buy a sending unit for around 400 or less and do it yourself.

My truck did this a week after I bought it, dealer replaced sending unit.

Just a curiosity question, but what is it about this sending unit that costs even $400? I thought that sending units were just simple resistive devices actuated by a float.

the problem is you have to buy the hole pickup,and sending unit:eek:

I have a '02 Crew cab short box. The dealer just quoted me $600 with $430 of that in labor.
