: Gonna Make My First Pull Tomorrow. Any Advice?

Yup so the time has finally come for me to try sled pulling. I do a lot of drag racing but I haven't got a clue about pulling. I'll be pulling with the truck in my sig with 37's and all.

So what gear should I use? T-case in Hi or Low? I figure I'd put the tranny in 3rd and the T-case in 4Lo. The tune I'm running is from Brayden but it's setup for drag racing. Does that make a diff if I'm going to sled pull or not? If so I'll see about getting a pulling tune for tomorrow.

What about air pressure? Where should it be at? I know these are a lot of questions but I want to make a good run. Especially since I'll be competing against nothing but boosted gassers..............and my buddy with his LLY with a Cheetah:eek: SHIT!!:o: No worries though. My LB7 71.5mm should be here next week in time for the next pull next Friday:D

Not sure about the lift and large tires but for the trans I would set it in "3" "Tow haul" and put the transfer case in "4lo" You might run into problems playing with the boosted gassers, especially if they do not have a dedicated class for diesels.

Good luck and beat up on the cheetah turbo truck

I'd look into doing so tuning changes so its setup more for pulling instead of racing. Also, set your tires to around 30-35 psi

If there is a weight limit try and add as much weight as you can to reach it. Usually they are 8000 or 8200lbs.

Yeah I'll see if I can get in touch with Brayden for my tuning. For the heck of it I went to the sand pit and tried out 4Lo, 3rd gear with T/H. Shit the truck goes through those gears fast and screams! I have no rev limit on my truck so I wonder if I'll hurt anything? I hit 5 Grand and I just backed out of it.

30 psi front tires and 50 psi in back, lower torsions to control hopping, clamp springs to prevent axle twist. depending on track (hard or soft) alot of traction you might stay in 2nd with 37" tires, if less traction let her grab 3rd and get all the wheel speed you can, most important stay on top of the turbo and let it do its job. oh yea and have fun!!!

Thanks for the info! I'm going to do everything mentioned above but turn down my torsions. I'm lifted 6" and I'm worried about the alignment afterwards.

Keep your bars up...and you won't need to worry about alignment because your not going to be leaving the track on your own power. Just my honest opinion.

Oh and about playing in the sand pit, hook a sled to your truck and you will not be jamming gears that fast :D

just count your turns, mark the socket with something, the bolts don't need to come out all the way. i usually bring them out till they are flush with the cross member making my drive shafts about level with the ground, once your done pulling run them up same amount of turns and you should be the same as it was, i don't know if its the same with a 6" lift though probably not. some of you lift guys would know better.

Umm.. Yeah it will... Sled pulling we have the trans in 3rd gear in 50 feet.. It shifts very very fast.

He took first place and drove it home. ;)

Find some 33"s fast. Block the rear solid if allowed, get some traction bars, strap the center link, run 30psi in the front and 50psi in the rear, dropping t-bars helps too.

If you've already pulled what did you setup like?

That was my first pull ever. All I did was lower my tire pressure up front to 30psi and 47psi in the rear. I have no traction bars, blocks in the rear or anything. I'll be looking into all that stuff for sure.

Thanks for the pointers guys!

Hey how did you do your first pull? Distance an placing. How many trucks did you pull against. Did you have fun? Thats the main thing.

Oh it was great man. 306.12" and got first place. There were 20 trucks in my class.

I hate to say it but I almost like it more than drag racing. That might change when I install my Cheetah.

Ive never drag raced but I cant see it giving me the adrenaline rush that pulling does. Not only that but around here the closest strip is an hour and a half away.

90% of my pulls are within an hour.

You'll also notice the same people at every pull and eventually you'll realize how much of a family you will become. Thats the fun part.

^^^^huh.

Must be the water in NY, around here everybody breaks. Lifted trucks just do it more.
