99,280 miles. Have only installed a serpentine belt idler assembly at 40,000 -but, just ordered a front wheel bearing assembly from DMaxAlliTech and will be doing that soon. That brings total parts to about $350 and have done self-service (didn't even do the idler under warranty).

Just turned over 36,000. The biggest problem? An injector sticking open at 11,000 and frying the engine. Two week replacement time while on a military move from Georgia to Alaska, deadlined in Arizona.

98,000 miles.

Approx 70,000 miles had transfer case leak -- IIRC the back half was replaced (along with other stuff - damn spring!) to the tune of $1200+. Ouch.

Replaced rear axle seal - twice.

Replaced glow plug - warranty!

Trucks blowing white smoke now, dealer diagnosed it as bad injectors, will have new set installed by the end of the week - hopefully.

After it's all said and done -- I love this truck! :ro)

2003---32,000

ready for this laundry list of problems.

4x4 service light fixed three times
passenger side mirror heating element went out (replaced whole mirror)
front bumper rusted (replaced)
brake pedal stuck to the floor while I was moving. It was 30 below out that day and on my way to the dealer..they said weird things happen when it gets cold out....i called gm customer care from their phone and they had the part there to fix it in 45 minutes. (replaced booster/fluid)
driveline vibration (brought in 7 times total of 11 days lost, finally took out driveline and re-balanced and shimmed rear end) kinda helped
4x4 stuck in low (replaced that stupid swtich on the dash)
4x4 stuck in hi (same as above)
new thermostats...twice
steering shaft
they put some new bracket under the engine to seperate the 4x4 linkage from the engine mount. I coud be wrong on where the mount actually went, but I do know they had to raise the entire engine up 6 inches to get it in.

all this happened between 7,000 and 18,000 miles....since then everything has been smooth as silk. Oh and if anyone needs the names of the two ladies in charge of the whole customer care crap...i have their fax number....

Approx. 116k on my 02 ext. cab 4x4 short bed with allison. Replaced batteries and alternator around 70k. Spent about 1000.00 to change every fluid in the truck at around 100k. Its in for 8 new injectors now under warranty. The truck has been there two weeks. Transfer case work is needed also, estimate around 800.00 to 900.00. Steering shaft noise that everyone else has, been there since 35k. First set of tires lasted 57k, 59k on this set of 265's. This darn thing better last 300k!!!!!!!!!!!!

55k had the truck for 6k now, love the power, but rear axle seals are leaking and broke both tailgate cables last week while loading 4x4 ATV in the bed. GM has had bad cables for a while you think they would fix that. It creased the tailgate and all the mounting hardware is bent.

88.000 miles.
Before I got it the PRND thingy went out.
Since then I've had to get the front end re-aligned twice. Both times costing around $700 due to worn parts. (Idler arm, front bearing assembly??, pitman arm)

Getting a rough idle now and I thought I smelled antifreeze in the exhaust fumes Saturday after a hard run pulling a trailer. Oil level good.

21,000 with a few minor problems... within first 500 miles, the driver's side torsion key adjustment bolt came out(stripped threads on bolt) and tailgate handle cover fell out while driving down the road (I forget at what mileage)... other then that, a very good truck! I once hit a tree while in a bad storm... the tree fell down right in front of me and I hit it with the grill and bumper, then the front tires drove up onto the trunk of the tree, only problem: right bumper mount bent 1/8"! Dragged the tree into a field with a tow rope and drove away.

I just rolled over 126k. Had 90K when I got it 9 months ago. Since I've had it, I had the coolant pump and all 8 injectors replaced under warranty. Out of pocket, I have replaced both CV boots, both idler arms, both control arms, and both upper and lower ball joints. As soon as my funds recoup, I have to replace the frprv to cure my lopey idle. I am also going to have the frame treated. After the winter, I have all kinds of surface rust on the frame. I love the truck and will drive it until the big pieces fall off!!!

2003 LS Extended Cab
25k miles

- encoder replacement - Service 4X4 light came on at 150 miles

- Stock steel wheels - one warped and replaced under warranty.

- Another steel wheel became warped after 5k miles - replaced them all with factory alloys off an LT model because I didn't trust them. Cheesy.

- Rear Axle seal leaked all over rear brake - turned rotor, replaced brake pads and e-brake pads, replaced axle seal, etc.

- A/C became intermittent and then quit working - compressor didn't engage - low pressure switch went out and was replaced with an updated part.

- Hard start turned quickly to no start at 24k miles - towed to dealer and replaced all 8 injectors.

- Recall - tailgate cables.

- Heated mirror no longer "heated" - driver's side mirror replaced.

Rear axle flange still leaking after 3 trips to the dealer. Also need to get the infamous "steering shaft clunk" fixed/lubed or whatever...

---------

Chevrolet is very close to having the ideal truck - I think they need to shoot a few bean counters and then "get-r-done"

1 Put some real shocks on the thing. I took the stock shocks off after 200 miles - bouncing down the road over the expansion joints drove me nuts. Wallowed in corners. Replaced with bilsteins and now all is well - I wouldn't have my wife tow her horse trailer with the stock shocks -> "unsafe at any speed".

2. Offer michelins as an option. The firestones suck.

3. Upgrade the steering linkage components - eliminate the steering shaft clunk and increase durability and longevity of tie rod ends and idler arm, etc.

4. Deal with quality control issues on rear axles - many, many reports of rear axle seal failures on this site.

5. Injectors - well since the new quiet injectors don't seem to last all that long - give me the option to run with them "louder". Give me a switch to lower fuel rail pressure, run a different injection program and turn off or run with reduced pilot injection to increase fuel system longevity.

Only parts needed other than normal maintance is the starter and flexplate changed out at 44,000 miles under the factory warrenty. Exellent fuel milage and a good ride!:ro) No complaints from me other than it could use more ground clearance.
