I pulled all my equipment out of van for the ongoing trans repairs/lemon law suit. looks like I am keeping the van. so I have a list of improvements to make the first being get the road noise level down. Anyone try a spray on bedliner inside the van? I can't have the rubber mat that came with it because there is always a hose dribbling/leaking something the thing became a mold zone in 6 months

I used 3/4" ridgid insulation. It was cheap and easy.

that hard 'styrofoam' stuff? I may try that on the sides. In my last van I had that silver stuff that comes in a roll. hit the brakes hard one time and got a shower. condensation in between the insulation and roof. van always carries water inside

Yep. I put it on the sides and top. I used 3M adhesive spray to put it on and not 1 piece has fallen off in over a year now.

I used dynamat on the walls , ceiling , and doors . Pricey about $450.00 for two big boxes. With a carpeted insulated divider , Lexus quiet , most of the noise I get is from the glass .

thanks for the ideas. I don't know what the dynamat is, but will try to find it. before I load the van back up with equipment I want to get it as quiet and insulated as I can. I think I will be putting a divider up too, but not right behind the seat back alittle behind the side cargo doors to keep the back 3-4 feet seperate.

Dynamat is a product that was used by car stereo enthusiasts. Its expensive, not sure if the price has gone down since its introduction. People have pulled out entire interiors of cars, put in Dynamat and put the interior back in just to quiet the vehicle. I've considered buying some carpet and lining the headache rack to help ease the noise.

My last van had a 'water leaker' in it too. I had the walls and floor spray foamed (spray urethane used for house insulation) and then had a 3/4" sheet of marine plywood put on the floor and then laid the original rubber mat down over that. Worked perfect for years until I sold the van; never rotted, molded, or anything. Kept the van very quiet and WARM in the winter!!!

you aint kiddin about keeping it warm. one winter I had water lines freeze inside the van driving down the eway with the heat cranked. after that I started putting in rear heaters, taped into engine coolant.
I did see another carpet van somewhere with that spray in house type insulation.

What did you come up with for heaters? I'd consider rear heat, just haven't looked into it.

you can find them on ebay. I got a nice aftermarket one right now. it can heat the whole van on its own. round unit built in fan. heater hose is hot going in and cool going out, it cranks out the heat. one van I had I put in a rear heater out of a 4runner.

I have found that installing a Raised Roof quieted my van down considerably. Wind howl is now virtually inaudible.

I have a ladder rack on mine. I think I'm out of luck with the howling.

Is the howling from the rack or the ladders? I cured the howling from mine by filling all the rungs of the ladders with expanding foam and by placing a piece of 1 1/2" aluminum angle on the front rack to break up the air before it hits the square tube.

Its from the rack. Sometimes the ladders will be off and the howling will sometimes increase. I heard the expanding foam works in the rungs. I've been thinking of the air dam in front of the ladder rack too, just haven't done anything.

My van is has been empty for about 500 miles or so. No floor covering from seats back, and it is SCREAMIN' on the highway. Most of my road noise right now is from the floor. It's unbearably loud on concrete highways. People can't even hear me on the phone unless I slow down to under 60ish. It gets a little quieter on asphalt highways. I think I'm gonna start with the spray on bedliner on the floor and wheel wells, insulate the sides, roof, and wheel wells, and see how it is.

Maybe something to consider is if you are not putting in the rubber mat and you don't want the corrogated steel floor is to have a pour in bedliner and the floor will be flat.

And maybe spray in bedliner for the entire cargo area, floor, walls, and ceiling.

in my for e250 it was loud. i also need to replace the tires. the po had some hold-it-off-the-ground cheaps and the tread was almost at the wearbars. a new set of goodyears solved the tire noise.

i used the reflectix to help with heat in summer then over labor day added 1" isosynotic(?) from lowes on the walls and put a 1/4" one side finished over that. looks nice and the noise is reduced. put the relectix on the ceiling also. used heavy duty velcro to hold it on. bolted all of it to a 2x4 bolted the the vans metal walls. it was a complete strippo.

the floor had a one piece hdf(heavy duty fiberboard) and over that i laid alloc house flooring. moves the frt around very easily and offers a little insulation.

now i need some kind of heater like an espar t2 or t4 to keep warm in the winter.

For sound insulation look up elemental designs and their e-dead product. it is comparable to dynamat, but much cheaper. You could put it in the front and build a divider with a door for the back.
