I just had a thought about the cooling fans on our engines...

Has anyone tried adapting the cooling fan setup from a military HMMWV 6.5L? It's a mechanical engine fan with an electric thermostat controlled hydraulic clutch. The clutch controller gets its pressure from the power steering system. You never hear the fans on those unless its actually HOT. Seems like they have about the same op temps as well, if i'm remembering correctly.......

Just a thought I had.......

I doubt those would cool a dmax as well as the stock fan. The 6.5's have MUCH lower cooling needs than the dmax. The LLY's "can" overheat regardless, having the fan engage earlier only delays the inevitable.

JMO. hopefully tx will see this

Like I said, just a thought I had.

Not really thinkin about this as a fix for overheating, but more for the guys like me that start up there cold truck and hear the fan on for the first 1/2-1 mi down the road, no matter the outside temp.

I'm thinkin more of just the clutch setup on our fans instead of the whole fan assembly off the 6.5L

Never said it was a good idea or a bad idea, but just an idea
